We are currently building a coop. And, we'd like to hatch our own eggs. But, we've never done this before. So, it's with some trepidation (and excitement!) that we are getting ready to order some fertile eggs. Right now, we're leaning towards getting the Red Star and the White Leghorn.
Question #1: Are there certain breeds that do better than others in the high desert?
The other concern we have is we wouldn't be keeping any roosters. And given that we zero control over the sex we're not sure how this will shake out. Culling the roosters sounds drastic to us. But, we're not sure what our options there might be.
Question #2: What to do with roosters?
Question #3: Anyone have experience going to the Old School for their new to chickens class? Worth the time?
Thanks in advance for your advice/responses!!!!
