Anyone out there also raising quail or pigeons? I thought this would be a neat project. Anyone know if the meat varieties of quail would do well wintering over and thrive in our warm summers outside (Albuquerque)?

I have some homestead multi purpose breed chickens, but I get too attached to them by the time they are big enough to eat. I thought quail then pigeon (my second choice as seem more messy to keep) may be the answer for supplying more meat.

I would guess pigeon is much more hardy then quail, but quail multiply faster and don't pair up making easier breeding. Any suggestions/thoughts?

Gambels quail and scaled quail run wild in corrales. Just be careful of hawks

Hey - did you see the article in yesterdays paper about raising racing pigeons? It made me think of your post! Good luck!
