On December 22, 2012, in the midde of the night, 10 of our chickens (and 5 rabbits) were stolen from our coop.  We live in the East Mountains.  We are now trying to locate them. Though I know it would be a miracle if we found them, we could use a miracle.  One of the chickens, Snow, was attacked by a hawk and I nursed her back to health.  Needless to say, my 14 year old and myself are heart-broken and keep hoping we can find them.

We heard that they were sold at a feed store but have checked in Tijeras and Isleta.  Are there other feed stores in town that buy chickens?  If anyone has any suggestion, we would appreciate them.

Are you sure they were STOLEN and not taken by Coyotes or Skunks?  I suppose it could be homeless folk, who have butchered and eaten them by now... but unlikely in Sandia Park.  I've never heard of stolen chickens, at least not in the modern age.

FYI: Many folks get into chicken keeping then change there mind. I often see chicks and/or Roosters given away in this Duke City group. Also, the city of ABQ Animal Shelter gets chickens in and you can call them or see the web site (search from cabq.gov, animal control...)  for what they have now. Your birds might even show up there. (?)

Good Luck and I hope you find them. Or make peace with the loss. I'v personally found that realizing loss is part of loving to have animals around. Sadly, it comes with the territory...

Unfortunately, we know they were stolen............we know who did it, but can't find out what was done with them.  : (   Thank you for the encouragement.

There is a monthly poultry swap at the feed store in Edgewood but I'm pretty sure it's not happening in the winter months. They might know something; seems like they might have a bulletin board where info might be posted or requests for info. Sorry for your loss. My neighbors just steal my lawnmower.

Thank you for the reminder about that.  We actually purchased the chicks last Spring from the man who runs it.  I can talk with him as well.
