Hi- One of my approx. 1.5 month old Barred Rocks is looking pretty darned roo-ish. Although my neighbours are great, I just can't have a rooster. I want to find him a good home-preferably one that won't eat him! Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
Just not crazy about him ending up in a bad home or on somebody's menu (vegetarians in my house). I know it is silly, but he's kind of part of the family already.
Are you still interested in giving Jack a good home? I would be so relievedhe is a sweetei, but a rooster none-the-less and I really don't want the crowing to start and make my neighbours hate me!
Thats the hard part of chickens in the city for most people I think...at this point we're more attached to our eggs than our chickens - we've eaten a couple of ours in the course of things. I would process this rooster if I hadnt already told my son that we would try out showing these two and that this one in particular is his job to raise.
i also have a barred rock rooster that is available. about 3 1/2 months old. did not realize she was a rooster until she started crowing. then looked closer and yep.
also looks like one of my cuckoo marans is a rooster. this bird is around 9 -10 weeks at present.
I don't know what the rules are at the various growers markets around town, but perhaps you could take the rooster down to the Corrales or Los Ranchos market and have a for sale sign on his cage out in the parking lot or on the fringe of the market or something?
