I have had chickens for a couplt of years now but have never gotten them as chicks, only young pullets. I was wondering where in town or the East Mountains people get chicks? I have quite a variety of chickens and would like to keep up the variety. I am really wanting to add at least Ameraucana (or Easter Eggers), black copper Maran, and Buff cochin. Any suggestions?
Thanks and happy chickening!

Permalink Reply by Binders on March 8, 2013 at 11:48am Thanks for the advice. Doesn't sound like a lesson I would like to learn the hard way! I am looking into converting an old chicken house/cart into the brooder while the old chickens will get the big shed/coop until the chicks get old enough to mix.

Permalink Reply by CathyMK on March 8, 2013 at 12:51pm Both MyPetChicken.com and MeyerHatchery.com have rare breeds like Black Copper Marans, and will ship as few as 3 chicks to ABQ (Meyer starts shipping small orders in April). Just be sure to call your post office ahead of time and ask them to call you as soon as the chicks come in. I lost a couple last year because they waited too long to call.
I've been happy with my Black Copper Maran from MyPetChicken so far. She's a good layer (4-5 a week), cute, and has a nice personality.
