Duke City Fix

I got Rock Band and have had a great time with it so far. Yer' bobbin' yer head as you play your fake guitar or bouncing as you fake drum. I'd always expected that drumming is pretty hard, but now I've proved it to myself.

Alas, the tilt sensor on the guitar has already quit working after a couple of weeks...so the bad hardware reputation could be well-deserved. (Warranty replacement on its way.) Sounds like people are mainly having drum pedals and guitar strums break.

Anybody else have this? How do you sing Sabotage without sounding really silly? The only way you can do that voice is if you are that dude. :) Also, Maps is a bit bland when a guy sings it. Say It Ain't So can make anyone sound good. And if you don't know a song, put it on Easy and you may just "sing" through it.

The latest issue of GI just hit my mailbox yesterday, and there's a preview of Rock Band 2 in it. Looks like this second iteration of hardware is much sturdier (e.g. the kick pedal actually has a metal hinge in it.) OR if you are insane, there's a limited edition, $300 super-studly electronic drum set that is coming out for it. You can even hook a drum brain to it and use it as an actual drum kit.

I haven't played Rock Band (can't open my house up to plastic toy invasion), but this RB2 preview definitely has my interest piqued.

I have/had the first generation rockband hardware. after about 1 year i wore out one guitar completely. the tilt sensor is randomly functional, the strummer, broke in 1 direction, and the wammy bar completely worthless.

I also had the problem that most have had with the drum pedal in that it cracked in half. Though I fixed it even better than the original. I went to a crafts store and bought two flat brass pieces of metal. (i think it cost me about $20) then I used a dremmel to cut out the shape of the foot pedal and then drilled through both plates and drum pedal then bolted it together in a to make a double reinforced pedal that no amount of rocking out could destroy.

I am in the process of selling my PS3, if the person doesn't take my rock band hardware it will probably be up for sale soon.
