I think 2 or maybe even up to 7 little goats in a large albuquerque backyard makes sense for those who are interested. Being vegans, their poop is fantastic fertilizer and odor free. They eat…Continue

Comment by Deanna Baca on September 26, 2012 at 12:24pm Well, I got a post in my inbox about goats in the city limits. In answer to carolyn who made the post, there is a previous discussion as to the amount of land the city requires to have a goat (or two) in the city limits. I know a lot of folks live in ALBQ and own goats but most of them have at least 1/2 acre of land they keep their goats on - I live in bosque farms and I have that much with plenty of room for my small herd (currently 5 adults/1 kid) Your shelter will depend on your goats' size. If you were to get Nigerians (the smallest dairy goats) you really could get away with a couple of small dog houses for the does to go in out of weather. I have some handbuilt shelters that are small but can house about 5 goats. I also have a barn with 2 stalls that can comfortably fit 10 adults and babies comfortably.
I know of several folks who have goats for sale. Some are in milk, some are dams/daughters, adults ready to breed of all different breeds (from Nigerian to saanen) and many folks near the city limits with nice bucks you can use for breeding so if you want more information, feel free to email me. I personally don't have any for sale so you won't get a sales pitch from me - just information.
Comment by SteveJ on August 31, 2012 at 1:37pm I have two very friendly larger goats, with horns, in a big pasture. Fee free to contact me to check them out (in the North Valley).
Comment by Mindy Cole on August 31, 2012 at 1:28pm Thank you Danielle, I've just dropped them a line on Facebook. Kellie you're great thanks.
Comment by Danielle Ramsey on August 31, 2012 at 1:02pm You might try South Mountain Dairy both for bigger goats and for information. Plus it's a gorgeous area for filming. They have a FB page and a webpage

Comment by Mindy Cole on August 31, 2012 at 12:40pm I would need a goat to go on location for the filming around Albuquerque and than for a green screen it would have to go into a studio. Are goats house broken or what do you do if you brink them inside? Would your goat look ridiculous with a girl and a woman pretending to be riding on her back? I presume when you say small you mean something like the size of an australian shepherd dog? Oh I have to get to know goats :)
Comment by Kellie Bellie on August 31, 2012 at 12:35pm Ooooh, my goat is tiny… I would recommend going down to Los Poblanos farm in the North Valley (off Rio Grande)… They also have a “Barnyard Animals 101” tour on Saturdays at 11am. They’ve got all kinds of goats (larger ones) and they’d probably let you do your scene with them, depending on who you talk to (the last time I went, the lady filling in was kinda cranky & impatient).
Comment by Mindy Cole on August 31, 2012 at 12:24pm Hi Kellie, my email is notnct@aol.com, can you email me there and I'll give you my phone number or visa versa? I think I'm looking for a larger size goat to use, since there will be a green screen shot with two people pretending to be on it's back. All I know about goats are the one's that I've seen at the state fair each years. Look forward to hearing from you.
Comment by Kellie Bellie on August 31, 2012 at 12:05pm I'd be happy to Mindy. I'm near Wyoming & I-40 (not far from UNM) just up Lomas if that's where you're going to school.
Comment by Mindy Cole on August 31, 2012 at 11:51am Hi, I'm going to be making a short film through my college and a goat has a central part in it. Would anyone be interested in giving me a tour of your goats, giving me an idea about their behavior and possibly having your goat star in my film? I've made films before, but none of them had a goat :) I live in the Foothills area of Albuquerque and can come visit at your convenience. Thanks for your help, consideration and tips in advance.
