It seems that folks are no longer coming to or posting to this site. (?) although we fought long and hard to elect Obama... the work is not over. We have our celebration now, AND YES WE DESERVE OUR CELEBRATION, but also we must remain vigilent in holding the new administration accountable to the ideals and structural changes needed to accomplish them. Anyone with me here?

I got home from a meeting group on sustainable urban gardening practices and Transition Towns. I fed the cats, poured a beer and flipped on the news...

The first piece I saw was on a mixed race couple (a dark skinned man and a fair skinned woman) in England that had twin girls 7 years ago and one appears “white” and the other “black.” Crazy. They just had another set of twins, newborn boys, and one appears “white” and the other “black”.Super crazy. Even the parents are astounded.

The next story was about a three lane highway in Florida shut down because someone had dropped a huge load of SHOES on it, spread over all three lanes stopped traffic for hours. They still don’t know where the shoes came from. And, they don’t know what to do with them…

The last story showed a semi truck in Minneapolis/St. Paul (I think...) ripped open and spilled out from inside: about 10,000 eggs. Frozen fried eggs for 3,500, courtesy of an industrial poultry factory somewhere in Nebraska, no doubt.

Somehow, that last story and the visual images from all three sent me into a ROAR of laughter. I laughed harder and harder, here alone in my living room, until tears began to form in my eyes. I laughed out “my god, the world really is coming into chaos! It’s changing, it’s all changing and crazy’ And I love it! As much as it scares me financially and all, I LOVE IT that we no longer know what to expect. That leaves room to not have expectations. and THAT leaves room for change.

Sometimes it's the small moments that matter. I hope you find this a tenth as amusing as it was for me.

I'm curious why the Obama campaign is still soliciting contributions via email. Do they still have debt to pay off for the campaign? I didn't send any more donations, however I did go to the online shop to buy Obama tee shirts for my kids.

We are currently on the road in the heart of the Confederacy. Today we passed through the Real American towns of Cowan and Winchester, Tennessee and things are looking surprisingly OBAMA-ish in these small glades. Fields of snow white cotton and dead brown dried out corn stalks line Highway 64 just off the Cumberland plateau and alongside the road are a few signs screaming SARAH! but they are in the minority. This Harvest Season may actually bring new life to the White House.

Here's a webcam look at one main street in the Real America, the Quad at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Campaign diaries, CNN, and several other sources are reporting the latest poll results: Obama has taken the lead in Iowa and Minnesota. He's up a bit in Ohio, too, but still within the margin of error there. These are post-Denver/Palin announcement, but pre-RNC. Let's hope he can keep up the momentum.
