The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This cult young adult novel is one of those books that makes you (first) horrified at what kids are reading (the sex and drugs are pretty much right out there) and then thrilled that this is what kids are reading (it's an incredibly well-written, painful, fantastic book).

I seriously, seriously cried.

I was a geek of geeks, as a teenager. Growing up in a small town in Alabama (which is almost redundant), I was, first, a hippie, then a punk, then a goth, and finally, just a guy who liked to read, write, watch "weird" films (i.e. foreign and art), and listen to music that few people around me even know of, much less liked. I think that I would really enjoy this book!

My fav. teenage angst book is King Dork by Frank Portman (aka Dr. Frank from the East Bay punk band Mr T. Experiance) Great book about this kid faced with the "Cult of the Catcher in the Rye" funny stuff....read somewhere there's a movie in the works (?)
