While not a local author (she lives in Austin, Tx), Elizabeth Crook's The NIght Journal is full of local flavor--a historical novel that mixes present day action with historical events, it covers quite a bit of New Mexico history--particularly the history around Las Vegas, NM. It's inspired me to find out more about things I never knew about--like the Montezuma Castle. Anyway, I think it would be a good gift for anyone who likes fiction that lets them learn more about local history.
Don't know if I'd call myself a "local author", but I did just have a story printed in the hot-off-the presses anthology book, Who Moved My Furniture?!...changing lives one room at a time. Just in time for the holidays! Makes a great gift for do-it-yourself homeowners and anyone interested in the field of interior redesign and home staging. As another Christmas shopping season is approaching, I think it's a good time to bring this up again. Most of the local bookstores have a section for local authors; if you can't find it, just ask...sometimes it's hidden in a corner somewhere. Try Hastings, Bookworks, and Page One for some great selections. These stores offer great support for local authors.
Another option is to support independant authors from across the country. My books are on www.buybooksontheweb.com along with many other great writers.
