This year, I didn't get or give any books. I have over 100 listed on GoodReads which I want to read soon but there is no way I can decide which one is going to come to hand next. My family refuses to buy my books any more because I always complain about not having enough time for another one!

Story of my life, of course.

Still, it would be nice to have all the time I want so I can read everything I get my hands on.

Best thing ever is the Google book site. I've read some great stuff on there!

I gave away books I owned and already had read to people who would probably like them.

"The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde, the first in the series of wildly entertaining Thursday Next detective novels that combine the whimsy and anything goes spirit of Douglas Adams with a classicist love of literature.

"The Reader", which I thought was ok but became a movie that my mom loved, so it was good to clear off the shelf.

This year my nephew sent everyone the same book. They are all used, coming from different internet places he found. We are not allowed to tell the others what it is until we all have received it. I haven't gotten mine yet so don't know what it is.
I thought this was a really cool idea.

It is a cool idea. However, it also depends on what the book is. For example, I'd be disturbed if it turned out to be "To Serve Man". ;-)

the book turned out to be "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran. A good pick & what I had guessed.

What I gave:

The White Mountains, The Pool of Fire, and The City of Gold and Lead by John Christopher - for my sons (and more than a little bit for my boyhood nostalgic self...)

What I got: an Uncle John's Bathroom Reader. Heady stuff.

The Tripods Trilogy! Have you seen the TV series?

TV Series??? No I have not seen the TV series. Never even knew they existed! I wonder where I can see the series. Any ideas?

You can read about the two season series on Wikipedia. Hopefully, the 2009 release on DVD will actually happen, so you'll be able to watch it, too.

I have to give a special nudge, by the way, to the cowboy book, which was written by my soon-to-be stepdad (he's in Santa Fe), who's a major expert in rodeos and an old cowhand in his own right. It's a very cool book with fantastic photos.
