I've read 44 but own 58. I'm surprised I didn't do better than that--damn me for not reading more Jane Austen. :) This is a nice list-a good mix of "classics" and modern works--but all pretty readabale (except for maybe Ulysses).

Dude, you are a geek's geek and I salute you! I meant that in a totally positive way.
My spouse is a Tolkien geek too and when the first movie was released we went with someone who passed the time in line by writing people's names in elvish.

Some of these I'm just never going to read, and I'll admit it now. No matter how beautiful the edition of Ulysses I received from my mom, I just don't see myself going there. Same with #88, but for different reasons. This reminds me of a fantastic list of first-novel-only writers, which I will now attempt to find online....

Of course, since it's from the beeb, there is a noticeable lack of American authors like Twain, Hemingway and Vonnegut. No Burroughs, either, sad to say.

72, but I own 86. Some of them come up twice? Chronicles of Narnia AND The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1st in C of N series, unless you go by the Narnian chronology, which puts the Magician's Nephew first) and Complete Works of Shakespeare AND Hamlet?
I fare much better with the St. John's College reading list...
