As a teenager, with a fake Id, I used to go to Alfalfa's (on Lomas west of San Mateo) for the best hard rock bands....the owner was very cool and risqué...he would put lines of coke ..right on the bar top....for me and whomever whenever we came in there....Uncle Nastys and Neds (both off Central) were where the dance bands and Traveler would play....how about Friars Pub (Menaul and San Pedro I think) and Hogs Breath (San Mateo north of Montgomery) were also places to see live music.......did I miss any?
Leo's Larroc (“Corral” spelled backwards from the previous name) where I used to nurse a drink and dance my fool head off - and Leo Romero would step up on the band stand to sing now and then no matter who was playing. Also Ned's Portal was a favourite for tequila and cerveza chasers and the women were always plentiful ..... and the 3-piece house band with that raspy singer. I can't remember the name of that band. Do you remember? And then there was the Duck Inn on Lomas Blvd, just around the corner from my apartment on Jefferson NE for a really cold beer on hot days. I'm glad I didn't turn into a drunk!
