Used to ride the path from Los Altos area up to and then along Tramway before I moved to the valley a couple years back.  Never had a problem except with those darn prarie dogs who like to run out in front of me and try to make me crash. Swear I heard them laughing at me a couple of times after some close calls.

The trail is safe from the freeway.  It's not particularly well lit at night.  I have occasionally run into individuals not in the mainstream of society.

It has a couple of creepy tunnels and is sometimes cut off from view of anyone by tall fences, etc. I frequently ride it on my bike but try not to after dusk.

I took part of  that path at dusk last night, but only from Pennsylvania (over the I-40 overpass from the north) to San Pedro (where it goes south onto city streets. It is lit and was completely empty. And yes, it does have tunnels (well lit) and places where it is cut off from any view at all. I wouldn't worry about safety, but then again, I'm a guy.

Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. I was planning to RUN on it this morning but took a different route... I am a little hesitant as a pedestrian on those isolated paths - had a disturbing/icky incident years ago with a pervert on the Embudo arroyo trail west of Tramway.

So, it was Central Ave, cars and all.  :-)

I rode the bike path but would run around Los Altos Golf course, felt safe there & avoided some car fumes. Happy trails.
