Used to ride the path from Los Altos area up to and then along Tramway before I moved to the valley a couple years back. Never had a problem except with those darn prarie dogs who like to run out in front of me and try to make me crash. Swear I heard them laughing at me a couple of times after some close calls.
Permalink Reply by Clifton Chadwick on February 23, 2012 at 5:30pm The trail is safe from the freeway. It's not particularly well lit at night. I have occasionally run into individuals not in the mainstream of society.
Permalink Reply by andrew on February 23, 2012 at 9:54pm It has a couple of creepy tunnels and is sometimes cut off from view of anyone by tall fences, etc. I frequently ride it on my bike but try not to after dusk.
Permalink Reply by Paul Oostenbrug on February 23, 2012 at 11:49pm I took part of that path at dusk last night, but only from Pennsylvania (over the I-40 overpass from the north) to San Pedro (where it goes south onto city streets. It is lit and was completely empty. And yes, it does have tunnels (well lit) and places where it is cut off from any view at all. I wouldn't worry about safety, but then again, I'm a guy.

Permalink Reply by Andrea Lin on February 24, 2012 at 1:38pm Thanks so much for the feedback, everyone. I was planning to RUN on it this morning but took a different route... I am a little hesitant as a pedestrian on those isolated paths - had a disturbing/icky incident years ago with a pervert on the Embudo arroyo trail west of Tramway.
So, it was Central Ave, cars and all. :-)
