SummerFest

For Saturday's Nob Hill SummerFest:

Immanuel Presbyterian Church in conjunction with Two Wheel Drive Bicycle Shop invites you to celebrate Summerfest this weekend by riding your bicycle over to Nob Hill and taking advantage of our secure and free valet bicycle parking 2 p.m - 10 p.m.

We have a fenced lot at 111 Hermosa Street, SE, less than half a block southeast of Central and one block east of Carlisle where there will be an attendant on duty at all times.  We ask you to pick up your bicycle by 10 p.m., but any left unclaimed will be taken to Two Wheel Drive at 1706 Central, SE and can be picked up during regular office hours.  This service is provided by Immanuel because we love Nob Hill and we celebrate two wheel power!

FYI, now there's also a group for triathlon and multi-sports folks: http://www.dukecityfix.com/group/triathlonandmultisports.

My partner and I moved here from Santa Fe and are hoping to get into or start a women's cycling group. We commute to work and enjoy riding on weekends if anyone is interested.

Here's a great post from the Slow Bicycle Movement blog -- the world's first Copenhagen Invitational Slow Bicycle Race. Click here to see it.

It's been a month since I've been on my bike, save for a test ride around my apartment community. I guess I'm intimidated by these unfamiliar streets (I arrived here from Portland OR on April 1st). Shame on me. I suck.

I'll get out there, though. Wave (or shake your head in bewilderment, Hell I don't care!) when you see the large-ish guy wearing the loud flapping aloha shirt astride a gray Trek 7500FX. Hopefully he'll be astride it, anyway.

I agree. It's been a tough year to get going, what with the wind and the 50-ish-ness. That and I've only been able to get out on the rat-bike, the K2 needs a major tune-up and I don't quite have the guidas.

Graduation is in two weeks though, and following laying out some money for the party, I plan to get tuned and back on the road (Or down into the Corrales Bosque!)

Well, here's an advanced welcome to Burque, Amy. Yes, a lot of people do commute by bike here. We're a pretty bike friendly city and have a fairly decent network of bike trail and bike lanes. Here's a link to a map of our trails. Click here. Right here. Yup.

Hey does anybody know why the bike path is closed up by the General Mills plant?
Comment by Brian on May 15, 2009 at 11:34am
i have a decent bike (a shwinn, that's about all i can recall at the moment) that's been out of service for about a year, it's been sitting by my house, has dust, no rust, needs a new chain, new cables, new tires, probably new gears i'm told, a spit-shine and it would be ready to go. i know it's going to top $100 but i've grown attached to this one and could probably find something as cheap and comparable thru classifieds but i want to learn how to care for this bike as well. can anyone recommend a good shop to take such a project to that will help get 'er back up and running for a reasonable price?

Brian, in my opinion, Two Wheel Drive and the Bike Coop have the best wrenches in town. Fast, effective, patient, and affordable.

Does anyone frequent Bikes + (read: Bikes Plus) on Holly Ave NE? I went in there to pick up a bike map and the two guys in there were very friendly and helpful. The shop isn't the closest to my location (Northeast Cyclery wins there, I think), but my loyalties have never been predicated by distance. Anyone have experience there, good or bad?
