Every time i come on here i have to stare at those wonderful donuts up top there. and they been calling me. THEY'VE BEEN CALLING ME I TELL YOU! so this morning i went to Dunkin and what an amazing disappointment. i NEVER eat these kinds of things for breakfast. i dont even want to talk about the abortion they served me in the form of a breakfast sandwich. so tell me WHERE IN THE HECK DO THOSE DONUTS UP TOP COME FROM?!?!?!?!? they look absolutely delicious. from google'ing it there it seems as though the ABQ has a local donut deficiency.
sorry i couldnt take it anymore. this question has probably been answered before, but when i want donuts i want a cinnamon sugar thing going down and those have been screaming at me or a few days now.
Sorry - ABQ doesn't have a good local donut place that I'm aware of. Cupcakes yes, donuts no. If I'm mistaken I sorely hope someone will correct me...I agree it's a major hole in the local food firmament.
On Lomas, between Carlisle and Washington on the south side of the street (Just west of Hurricane's) is a little Italian bakery. Step inside and you will be transported back in time many decades. The donuts taste like they did when you were 5 years old and the price is about the same. It's one of those magic, timeless places in Albuquerque that you will only see if you're looking for it.
I stopped here on the way to work yesterday, Bought a dozen donuts, got a bakers dozen for $4.99. Was not too sure about the buy. The smell of the place wasnt too pleasant and the front door was filthy. Took them to work and let co-workers be the guinea pigs. All said they were very good. So I tried one, then two, lol. The chocolate was very good, also had a cake donut with some kind of orange glaze, it was also very good. I would go back, just wish they would wipe off the door glass and frame ! First impressions are everything.
yes, those are definitely tom thumb donuts-the ones at the state fair. i had them for the first time last fall, and they may well be one of the earth's sacred foods! and not just any donut pleases me. Spic n' Span bakery in Las Vegas, NM-those glazed donuts are worthy of a day trip up in the morning (to guarantee a dozen or so), then after the donuts have settled, a spell in the hot springs down the road-this will make you nice and sleepy for the 1.5 hour ride home. or you can just eat more donuts...
That is amazing, I'll be checking up on the Tom thumb machine status soon. For having them only once in my life, they sure got me! Thanks for the news.
Brendan: You can't be talking about that bizarro Italian bakery joint in what used to be a Wolff's bagels years ago (and something else that I don't remember before that, but not food). That place has seriously strange operating hours and recently got seriously cited by Environmental Health for an amazing array of bizarre violations. The donuts might be good, but after I read the Environmental Health report, I wouldn't touch anything in there with ten-foot pole. I thought that it was closed down, as a matter of fact.
As for anywhere else to get good donuts in Albq., well, now that Johnson's is gone, I've no clue.
