All the suggestions for restaurants to visit suggested in this group has got me thinking about bad food in Albuquerque. You know, those places you went that were so bad you went back to- just to be sure. And sure enough, they really were awful. Now that I have a bit more free time on my hands, I'll be trying out some new places. So, who do I need to steer clear of?

My short list:

Lucky Boy on Constitution near Carlisle: I know it's dirt cheap, but dirt actually tastes better.

Mediterranean Cafe on San Mateo new Central: The owner is nice, but it seems like every ingredient comes out of a can or a foil wrapper.

Roll 'n Sushi on Central near Sierra: I haven't even given them a second chance. There's so much good Asian food on Central, why waste another meal?

Where else?

When I went to the one on Menaul, the food was pretty good (I ordered stuff french toast, I think), but the service was poor.
I agree, I've had pretty good meals at the one on Menaul (I really like the Hoosier pork tenderloin sandwich), but the servers, for some reason, really are struggling. Are there too few? Or are they just terminally disorganized?

Service is even worse at the Bernalillo place, and I've heard psycho screaming from the kitchen, a little freaky.
I've only been to the Range once (in Bernalillo) and we thought it was great. We had a table of 6 and the servers had no problem, plus it was a busy Friday night. And the food was great. Fish tacos that were light and tasty and I had the chicken fried steak, which was very good.
I have to disagree with you there. Weck's is one of my favorite breakfast spots. The food is tasty and a good value.
green chile is bland, is my opinion of Wecks.

I had an egg white omelet with sundried tomatoes at The Range, and a Ginger &green tea with cream. I thought it was amazing. But anything remotely "new mexican" is certainly NOT good, there, imo.
I agree. Their cranberry poppyseed dressing is great!

Weck's is just bland. It's like a local version of IHOP. Gross.

Yes! How come everyone loves it so much? There's no originality!
church street cafe, la hacienda and la placita. coincidence - i think not.
Back in the day La Placita was really good, but I haven't been in years. Based on the menu they hang outside, they don't even really serve New Mexican food anymore...it's some kind of Californian/Tex-mex hybrid now.
the only good about the church street is the back patio seating. i usually quell my need for quality food there by ordering lots of beer. this also helps me to hold my tongue over the bad service.
You are right about the salads. My family and I went there, and my daughter was served a salad, parts of which looked literally like compost. Although she cleared off the parts that were inedible, it was incredible that the restaurant would have served something that looked so obviously bad. The restaurant was short on servers, so service was incredibly slow and bad. We will not be back for any reason whatsoever.
