Have you tried Mai Thai yet? This has got to be the best Thai food in town. They were reviewed in last week's Alibi. I've spoken with the chef/owner many times. Wonderful family. He prides himself on using only the freshest ingredients. Anything he's prep'ed but doesn't use that day gets thrown out. You can taste that freshness in everything he serves.
They're having a hard time right now, and may have to close. I'd really hate to see that knowing what a passion the owner has for his food. We lose too many good restaurants in this town. Go see them and support locally owned restaurants!
Eubank just South of Constitution on the West side of the road.
Mai Thai is FABULOUS! The green curry with tofu is absolute heaven (I get mild) and the curry with catfish is out of this world too. I generally like to take half the dish home to have leftovers for dinner, but I have eaten both curry dishes in their entirety right on the spot since they were so scrumptious. Everything is incredibly fresh (the owner prides himself on this). Definitely delicious!
The only time I was there and the buffet was set up, I arrived about 15 minutes before it closed (2:00 p.m.). At that point it didn't look so good. I ordered off the menu, so I can't attest to the quality of the buffet line.
Note: The prices on their website are not accurate. They are aware of this. He's been trying to contact his web developer to have this corrected, but hasn't been able to yet.
I just read on Gil's Thrilling (and Filling) Blog that they are doing away with the buffet sometime soon, so I guess my previous question is practically moot.
This doesn't surprise me. He prides himself on fresh, and a buffet doesn't lend itself to fresh. Buffets also tend to have a lot of waste. You have to turn over a lot of tables to make it work well.
We tried it tonight and it is indeed very good. Despite the fact that it was cool today, it was quite hot in the restaurant, so that worries me a bit (they said their AC is not so great).
I'm on the fence about whether or not Thai Tip outdoes them, so it looks like we're going to have to buckle down and do a lot of Thai tasting ...
Glad you were able to stop in. I ate there for dinner myself. I didn't notice that it was warm inside, but I sat near the door. It'd probably be better if they turned on the ceiling fans.
Just so you know.... Mai Thai was warm for about week. The building owner had to do repairs on the refridgerated air conditioning. All is well now. And the food is still spectacular!
Go eat! We lose too many great locally owned restaurants in this town because nobody knows about them until it's too late.
