I have read that there is a movement to promote food carts, which can be found each Wednesday in the Ta Lin parking area. The number of carts is still small, maybe a half dozen, but ABQ. has to start somewhere. Having visited Portland, OR. this summer, where food carts have become a major culinary smorgasborg, it can only be a good thing for ABQ. to support it's attempt to add some outdoor, quick food choices. We are planning on going this Wednesday. Has anyone tried it? Any suggestions?

Been to Portland and Eugene has similar offerings, too.  They even have a central delivery service wherein someone will go and fetch your food from various carts and bring it to you - I thought that was pretty cool.

Are some of the cart owners utilizing Twitter and other social media sources to get the word out about when and where they are set up for business?  That might be something worth asking them when you go.  Tell us what you think - it's great to support the locals!!

Their facebook page claims there will be coconut souffle there, this Wednesday. Will absolutely be posting on that!

yum - sounds great. can you post a link to the Facebook page?

Posted now, maybe FB can drum up some interest in this.

I haven't heard of this yet. Although we did just return from visiting Portland, OR and fell in love with those food carts. If I can make it there in time after work, i'd be down for visiting!
I did a late night drive down central on saturday night and there were food carts every couple blocks.  An amazing discovery.  They've also been showing up at the farmers market downtown in growing numbers (pizza cart).  I've got a growing collection of cards from the various carts.  It's more fun than baseball cards and the food that comes with them is better than stale bubble gum every single time.
I tried a couple of them the night they lit the new sign for the Kimo downtown - and they were REALLY GOOD. Seriously, the desert guy makes some really tasty stuff.
ive been down there for lunch a few times on wednesdays,  nice selection, kinda makes it feel like we have finally unlocked the "big town" foodcart achievement.   the onyl real drawback is limited seating,  and lots of generator noise/smell.  What we really need is a small RV park for foodwagons, where they can rent a power hookup.
How about turning all the vacant lots from former Route 66 hotels into food cart parks?  Presumably the infrastructure (water, power) remains from the hotels.

Well, my first food cart foray was a bust. Just drove by and there was only one cart. . a BBQ cart. Was really looking forward to the dessert cart. Hmmm. Few things get foodies as excited as seeing a long line of food carts, and Albuquerque is just ripe for a serious food cart area. Even in a bad economy folks have to eat. Portland had a reindeer sausage stand with aioli sauces that was amazing! I would be a dedicated food cart groupie if I could get one of those in ABQ., or a fresh yogurt cart with local fruit !!
