Is there any Fiber Arts Center/Community Workshop in ABQ that I don't know about?
I'm wondering why we don't have something awesome going on like in these cities:
The Urban Craft Center in Santa Monica
The Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn
Workshop SF in San Francisco
Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago
I know we have the Harwood and there are a couple small mom'n'pop places that offer workshop time and classes for specific activities like the Designer's Lounge and the awesome New Grounds... but wouldn't it be cool if there were a centrally located place, like a community workshop that not only offered classes in fiber arts like screen printing, pattern design, weaving, sewing, knitting, felting, macrame, basket weaving, bookbinding and papermaking, but also offered studio time, hosted visiting artists, and offered community resources like a handmade shop, an art gallery, equipment rental/sharing, a meeting space and a community workshop?
Why doesn't this exist yet? How does one go about making it happen?
Add LegUp in Minneapolis to the list...
It would be nice thing to create here in Abq indeed. A good place to find some kindred spirits might be http://fiberartsfiesta.org which lists many fiber-centric area groups, under the tabs for Council and Guilds.
Thanks for the suggestion, Judy. I think I got my answer as to why something like this doesn't exist. I don't think people are interested, you were the only person who chimed in. That makes me feel like it's not even worth looking into.
