I am thinking about leading a trip to the badlands just west of Rio Rancho this Sunday, July 3rd.

I was thinking perhaps meeting at Santa Anna Star sometime around 4:00pm or so and then head out, it takes about 30 minutes to make the ride. We could carpool, I can take my truck and I have room for 4 people.

The times are flexible and not set in stone, so if you are interested and have suggestions, I am open.
Anyone interested?

There is a primitive dirt road that leads to the edge of the badlands. But to get around the badlands, you will have to do it on foot. The hike around the badlands is not long or difficult. The dirt road going there is not bad but can get diffcult when wet, you really need a 4x4. The road is not well travelled (not maitained) and there is one steep hill.
The place for the meet is the Santa Ana Center in Rio Rancho:
Directions From East of the River
Travel North on I25, and turn left onto US550.
Turn left at State Highway 528.
Turn right on Idalia Road.
Turn right on Iris Road.
Turn left on Paseo del Volcan, and proceed to the Santa Ana Star Center.

Alternate - travel north on Unser Boulevard, turn right onto Paseo del Volcan or Main Street and proceed to the Santa Ana Star Center.

I suggest you take water, a hat for the sun, comfortable shoes for walking, and a light source for in case it gets dark on us before we head back out.
