The supercomputers are mostly on LambdaRail, I think we've got an Internet2 drop here as well. But it would be really great if we could bridge the bandwidth gap between academic and military technology resources and what commercial and consumer folks here have access to.

FWIW, I flagged this Google initiative to @cabq on Twitter where the 311 service routed it through various channels such that I actually got a phone call today. Forget the gentleman's name, he was some sort of communications officer who told me that relevant city employees were aware of what Google is up to. Unfortunately he didn't know if there had been any official decision to formally respond to the RFI.

So, we really need this to be a priority for the city. Our Council and Mayor need to realize the economic development that comes along with having some of the fastest broadband access in the country.

How do we get the city to put together a great response to the RFI?

How do we encourage them to make the the answer 'yes, with high level authority' to questions like, "Are you, the local government, willing to appoint an individual to serve as a single point of contact?"
