What a great opening weekend of high school sports. We got in 3 FB games over the weekend and some soccer games at the new APS soccer complex during the week. XC begins in full force state wide this coming weekend, with two meets here in the metro ABQ area. We'll be at the Eldorado/Sandia FB game on Thursday and down to Socorro on Friday for their game vs Ruidoso.

Next week is week one of high school football. Volleyball has already started, though not yet in the metro ABQ area. Cross Country starts late next week, but here in the ABQ area the first meets are the first week of Sept. Soccer begins tomorrow.

The South All Stars dominated the North 34-7 in tonight's 2009 A/AA All Star Football game @ Rio Rancho High School.
It was a beautiful night for football, and my thoughts it was great to see some contact after watching 7 on 7 Passing earlier in the day!
Tomorrow we head to Las Vegas NM for the AAA All Star Football Game at Highlands University stadium.

Fri & Sat July 10th & 11th is the New Mexico HS Coaches Association 1st Annual 7 on 7 Passing Tournament and Lineman Challenge at Rio Rancho High School. There will be approximately 38 teams from over 20 schools from across the state. Events start at 10am both days. Our football home page has more information.

It will be nice to get out and see the football flying. Remember, regular season kicks off Aug 27th!

Finally some high school sports to look forward to. On Friday July 10th, there is the A/AA All Star Football game at Rio Rancho High School. Then Sat, July 11th at NM Highlands University in Las Vegas is the AAA All Star Football game.

Remember August 27th is opening day for New Mexico high school football!

Alot of the teams are practicing football and basketball during the summer. There is no rest for the weary in this day and age of sports, on any level. The baseball and rest of the softball all star games are being played across the state this weekend.

Hey Arisqueno...My son will be a freshman at Eldorado this year. I definetly have my sights set on the BB tournament this year. However, I am such a big football fan, it is hard for me to look past this now. I have interviewed a couple of girls basketball coaches for my website so I am anxious for that time to come as well. My son started practice this week and enjoyed it so far. He didn't play YAFL (his own choice) but decided he wanted to play freshmen ball so here we are. Good luck to him at Valley.

I went to Volcano Vista High School this morning to interview their Head Football Coach Chad Wallin for my website. He was very gracious with his time and a joy to listen to as he talked about football.
What I wanted to talk about here is the high school itself. Wow..what a building. I was just blown away. It is not yet complete, but what a facility.

It looks like the football rosters for the upcoming high school football season will be released on Friday. I'll post a note if that happens this week.
