Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

This could be old news to some of you, but I tend to always play catch-up in regards to city events. I went to the Wal-Mart on San Mateo (near Central) to drop off my recycling only to find the containers gone. I waited a day or two, went back and they are still gone. I did pass by the KMart on Carlisle (near I-40) and checked to see if they had any . . . which they didn't.

Did I miss something? How can I be green in this city? My apartment building hasn't said anything about curb-side recycling being available. Please help!

-Josh
P.s. Oh yes, thanks for any help in advance.

The site at the KMart on Carlisle was moved behind the Walmart at Claremont and Carlisle. "Ha! We'll see who recycles now!..."

And they do not do curbside pickup at apartment buildings, unfortunately.

From the City website: "If you live in an apartment or do not receive curbside service, you can bring any of the above recyclables to one of 22 city-wide Recycling Drop-off Sites."

You can also link to this page which has (relatively) up-to-date info on the drop-off sites: http://www.cabq.gov/solidwaste/recycling/dropoff

I do find it frustrating that they keep moving the sites around on us. Not to mention why they cannot do glass pickup at curbside...

Hope this helps.

There are bins behind the Wal-Mart off Carlisle. Way behind.
You should ask your apt. complex manager and then call 311 and make a request that pick up be started there if it isn't already.

I agree, this is a problem. I often find containers full and people will just leave piles of trash on the ground. The recycling efforts in this city need a huge improvement, including making it easier to recycle on the curb, recycling glass and offering green bins for lawn and food waste (ie composting).

As to your question, all the information the city has available is here:

The one thing I don't get is why don't we have recycle bins at every apartment complex! If half of the dumpsters were replaced with recycle bins there would be a lot less trash dumped in the landfills. People in houses may have room for saving recyclables inbetween drop offs or pick ups - but most apartments don't.
Just a thought!
