A visit to Normandy, France. Amazingly beautiful; it is a comfort to know that our young men from so many years ago are cared for in such a place. So somber, one cannot help but be affected by the tragedy of the beaches below.

Chris, thanks for the information about Armed Forces Day.

"The Honors Soldier" is cute and she used to work for me. She's nice as the day is long, smart and has a good head on her shoulders. Here are a couple more pix of her.

This year May 17th marks Armed Forces Day. The day was created in 1949, and was a result of the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. President Harry Truman proclaimed the first Armed Forces Day (AFD) on May 20, 1950. Every year since then, on the third Saturday in May we've honored the men and women who have served in uniform - in war and in peace - since the nation's founding.

But how do I celebrate Armed Forces Day?

#1 Attend an Armed Forces Day open house at a military base near you. Talk to the men and women on duty. Ask questions. Learn what it's like to serve these days.

#2 Go to an Armed Forces Day Scout Blast. If you don't have a scout in the family, find a friend who does and tag along. You'll see things like pinewood derbies, Civil and Revolutionary War reenactments, sports competitions, fireworks displays, kite flying, rock climbing, hang-glider and dog-team demonstrations.

#3 Contribute to the preservation of an historic fort near you. Pitch in at a cleanup, volunteer to help out at the next holiday celebration, or simply pop a check in the mail.

#4 Honor the spirit of today's all-volunteer military by lending a hand yourself. Join a literacy group and teach people to read. Sign on to help in a disaster-relief project. Help dish up food at your local soup kitchen. Give blood.

#5 Just say thanks to any veteran you see or know

Giving anything of yourself honors those who gave everything of themselves. This is not a holiday to ignore, lets not forget we are in war and there are those right now, 24 hours a day sacrificing everything for us.

I have spent many a day at the coyote canyon site. I used to hold a contract with wackenhut and logged more hours on the ranges out there than i like to admit. Albuquerque still has one of the nicest ranges i've been to. Good to see pictures of it again, nothing beats sunny weather and a couple of thousand rounds down range.
