It all depends which part of the city you would be living in about soil conditions. If you live by the Mountain then the soil is ok but very rocky, the Valley's North and South have great soil and it's right by the river and the water table is very high lots of bugs too, the Westside has the worst soil, sandy, dry, full off arsenic and some heavy metals.

Thank You Kemper for your work with others, organizing the local Garden and coop tour recently. It was a great idea and I had a really wonderful (if hot) time touring the city and meeting folks and their yards. And their chickens, dogs, cats, kids, neighbors...

Local food fans, come savor the flavor of the locally grown tomatoes, chile, melons, salad and numerous other fresh greens, sweet corn and so much more at the ABQ Uptown Growers' Market. We also have fresh baked breads and sweet and savory pastries from numerous local bakeries, local raw honey, handmade soaps that are almost too beautiful to use, select local craftspeople and so much more. Live music every Saturday, plenty of onsite free parking and a location centrally located in Uptown Albuquerque, make ABQ Uptown Growers Market a great place to visit. We are open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 7am until noon. From Louisiana and Indian School, go east on Indian School 1 block to the light at Uptown Loop. Turn left (north) on Uptown Loop and look for us on the left in the parking lot of ABQ Uptown Shopping Center.

We are now entering high harvest season and the selection is nearing its peak!

If you have not been to the ABQ Uptown Grower's Market yet you are missing one of Albuquerque's best destinations for locally grown food! We have over 30 vendors selling everything from Hays Honey Farm local raw honey, East Mountain Organics greens, beets, radishes and so much more, Wagner Farms sweet corn, melons and chile. A dozen or two small growers with eggplant, grapes, peaches, nectarines, okra, squash, cucumbers and of course tomatoes, and the list goes on and on. One of my personal favorites is Ninz Nutz dark chocolate granola bars, delicious and nutritious! Most vendors offer free samples so you can try it before you buy it.
We are open every Saturday and Tuesday from 7am until noon until October 30th. We are in the parking lot of ABQ Uptown Shopping Center, one block east of Louisiana Blvd on Indian School to the light @ Uptown Loop, north on Uptown Loop a block and look for us on the left in the big parking lot.
Come on by tomorrow morning, there is live music every Saturday too from about 8:30 till 10:30.
Plenty of free on site parking too!
Do yourself and your family a favor and come by the market and savor the flavor of local food!

I'm watching some HGTV show about renovating and old farmhouse property in upstate New York. While it's a truely enchanting home and property, It always distubs me a bit when city folks "renovate" and old country house on a budget of $600,000 - demolishing the vast majority of the charm and original detail - does it really say "farm"? Will it ever BE a farm again?

Driving down Rio Grande Blvd, taking in all the McMansion ex-farmettes, I sometimes envision a future in which ... see my page for the rest of this blog post!

Anyone thinking of joining a CSA?

Beneficial Farms could be a good option for you. I support them because they work with 40 different farms in our food shed (within 300 miles) and run a year-round CSA. They are based in Santa Fe, but have one current location for pickup in Albuquerque. Check out there website for information such as all their past CSA boxes, and what farms they work with!


They have a vegetable share for $25/week, meat share for $10/week, cheese share for $12/week and an egg share for $4/week. As well as a marketplace that you can add extra items on to at any point you want.
