I'm no longer really a grammar maven (seriously, ask anyone in GMAT Prep!). But I do occasionally aspire to be, and having old Bill's visage looking out at me reminds me of the delight I had as a high school student awaiting his On Language column each Sunday.

Thanks. I think Albuquerque's just a little bit better now that this group exists.

Mr. Carrillo: There's a little tab you can use to extend the discussion forum so we can see more than three threads. Would you, pretty please? It should say Edit.

That story behind that link is damn funny, Don. Thanks for cheering me up this morning.

Another local tv news journalist tonight confused his use of less with few...Differences were subtle but gaping at the same time.

Why does improper grammar hurt the ears?

Another news tv slur is using a comparative withhout the other half...(More Negatory kudos to advertising)...A vague example: It's better but leaves off the better than...And the IS-ARE lack of agreements run rampant on the tv evening snewz. [And if you can make total sense of my paragraph, then you are a Grammar Maven!

At, at, at, at, AT! If I hear "at" used incorrectly one more time I'm gonna SCREAM in somebody's face! "Where's he at?" "That's just where I'm at." "I didn't see where you were at." OMG!!! Wrong, wrong, wrong. "At" is never to be used at the end of a sentence. It should be "Where is he?" "That's just where I am." "I didn't see where you were." Just drop the "at" period, and you'll be fine. That's my PSA for the day.

Hi -- new here, and see some folk from the film group...

My greatest pet peeve (has there been a rant about this already?) is the rampant mis-use of "there's." As in "there's lots to talk about on the news tonight."

People have lost the art of the contraction, and the reality that they're actually saying, "there is lots to talk about ..." etc. It's in movies, on the news, on radio, in restaurants ("there's lots of specials tonight..."), etc., etc.

Is it more common than using "Your welcome."? I don't know. But it bugs the crap out of me. I don't usually yell at the TV ... really.

P.S. Should have said many thanks to Rudolfo Carrillo for starting this group, and paying homage to William Safire.

@Malibu - excuse the tardy reply. If we lose the at, how can we continue to listen to Beck's Where It's At? That would be tragic ;-)
