Chamber Music Albuquerque (CMA) is one of the premier presenters of chamber music in the southwest. For 68 consecutive years CMA has presented and produced concerts by the leading chamber music artists from throughout the world. But before you run for cover to escape the term "chamber music," keep the following in mind: CMA is determined and committed to diversifying its presenting profile in Albuquerque to better represent the world we live in. The ensembles who appear on the stage of the Simms Center are among the very best in their field. And they present programs that are balanced with new works by composers such as Terry Riley, Philip Glass and Fred Frith as well as powerful works from the Euro-American chamber music repertoire. The ever-present "isms" that haunt the worlds of "classical music" are evident in the programming. From "impressionism" to "modernism" to "postmodernism," the musical works reflect these stylistic forms and musical languages. But more importantly, CMA presents works that fall into a new category that essentially defies a narrow description: "Postclassical." That could be anything and is manifest in the music by ensembles who have appeared recently such as the hip string quartet, Ethel, Pablo Ziegler's Nuevo Tango Quartet and the group that will appear next on CMA's 2008-2009 Season, the Santa Fe Guitar Quartet on Sunday, January 18, 2009.

Check these guys out. And check out the rest of CMA's season and hear extraordinary concerts in the finest acoustic environment (and an unfortunately well-kept secret) in Albuquerque, the Simms Center at Albuquerque Academy. CMA is bringing an exciting part of the musical world to Albuquerque and it needs to connect with a wider audience. So, come on out.
