I transplanted here from the Northwest (North-WET) about 6 weeks ago and am loving every minute of it.  The people I've met have been friendly and helpful, it's easy to get around by bus and by bike (and by foot), and there are tons of fun things to do!

I talked to two ladies the other day who told me that when people ask them how they like Albuquerque,, they respond with a negative exaggeration, only because they don't want more people coming here. I had to laugh about it. They really do love it here ! I could never do that, I'm too honest.

I am a Minnesota native, born and raised there. Moved to Albuquerque in Nov. 2004, and we love it here! To us this is Paradise compared to living up North. Coming here from a Northern State is a culture adjustment. You trade in some of your grass and water and high humidity for fabulous weather! Can you handle that? You can actually sit outside without getting bug bit! ( unless you're near water). We live on the SW corner of town and we get less moisture than the foothills area. We can see the gorgeous city lights from here......acres and acres of golden shimmering twinkling lights! Not generally seen in the main or east part of town. They are totally intoxicating ! I never get tired of seeing them, along with the gorgeous Mountain views and Paradise weather.

Hey David,
www.alibi.com is the website of the Weekly Alibi, the local print alt. weekly. Each fall, as the UNM student body is incoming, they publish a neighborhood guide, so you might check last year's.

Hi David, welcome to DCF. My family will be moving to ABQ as well, as soon as we sell our house. We chose ABQ for much of the same reasons, weather, opportunities, lifestyle. We currently live in Oxford, MS. I wish more people would use this group, it seems way under used so I wanted to post a prompt reply.
We visited last Christmas to check out neighborhoods, schools etc. We also wanted to check out the vicinity of Corrales/Rio Rancho to ABQ as far as drive time related to commutes.
Schools - We will be using Public schools, there are over 20 elementary districts and you can xfrer among them once established (at least I understand this to be correct.) We determined that we would not bother finding a place to live till we get there. We did decide on the NE, NW quadrants, Corrales or Rio Rancho. Commuting in any of these areas and living in any other should be no problem.
Jobs - I can't provide much help here. I will be setting up a technical office for the company I work for and we will have some tech positions available, but time frame is unknown at this time. Be sure to join the Web Geeks group, good group to network with. Keep in touch and maybe we can grab a beer together in ABQ!

We are thinking of relocating from Marysville, WA. My husband is originally from the Midwest (WI). We want to settle in an area where we can have neighbors over for vegetarian dinners, maybe play some cards or board games, go hiking, birding, maybe grow some veggies in a garden . . . .
