Hello, I have an acre in the north valley and i'm wondering if there would be some person(s) interested in farming about 1/3 of the land, i have irrigation ditch access.

Last night was just a friendly reminder that the average last date of frost in Albuquerque really is April 17. I hope you had any tender ones covered. Woah! 21F in some parts of the west side and 30F at my house in the north valley.

I have 3 or 4 extra Zucchini plants - seeds were from Plants of the Southwest last spring - just too many came up in my raised bed - I transplanted one to my mom's garden on Sunday and it's ok. I live near Wyoming/Montgomery if anyone would like to come up & take them.

Speaking of bees, as someone has, I've noticed this spring that we have hardly no insects in Bosque Farms, even along the drainage ditch where I live. I have a Rocky Mountain Bee Plant or two blooming, which, in most years would have 15 or 20 species of insects plus humming birds swarming around it, but especially honey bees and bumblebees. There are none this year. Not at noon, not in the morning, not in the evening. No butterflies. No moths. I'm thinking that mosquito spraying has crashed the insect population. Although the barn swallows in a nest on our porch managed to produce five chicks, I don't know where they got the food. A couple of martins started to nest here and then left. We have robins but they eat worms and crabapples. But the lack of honey bees scares me. We are within a half mile of a bee farm and still no activity. Also, I've noticed that there are no mosquito-eating fish (gambusia) in the drainage ditch, where they have been every year for generations. Anyone noticing anything similar to this?

You might try the Urban Chicken group here on DCF or Craigslist is always a good place to look. If your looking for chicks there are several feed stores in the valley.

Farmers and supporters: Check out "replies" to the announcment of the GMO Conference above, OR my personal Blog, for an in depth reporting of the conference. The small farmers and possibly the entire Green Chili economy is in potential danger if GMO's are not kept in-check in New Mexico.

I have a huge clump of catnip in my backyard. Cat died, so I'm going to plant mint (go mojitos). Anyone want it? I guess there's about a square foot of it back there, pretty established.

Born and raised in ABQ we are carrying on the Urban Farming tradition in our tiny backyard in NYC. Pole beans, spinach, arugula, lettuce and anything else that grows with only a few hours of sunlight/day. Gotta love it!

I have about 100 volunteer morning glories starting in my veg garden - if anyone wants them, come get 'em. corner Anderson & Wellesley
