Home Burglaries on the rise!!
Everyone please be more alert to your surroundings. While having lunch at home yesterday, I noticed a suspicious vehicle backing into my neighbors driveway. A hispanic male (mid 20's, medium build, short hair) went to the front door and rang the door bell twice. Upon seeing no one home, he went around to the back yard. I was on the phone with police dispatch as I then see him walking out the front door carrying a laptop. Two hispanic females then exited the vehicle and ran into the house. I was outside my house talking with dispatch by this point and they then became spooked and ran into their vehicle and sped off. APD showed up moments later and attempted to track them down.

This is the second burglary within 5 days on our street. The police officer also stated that they were in a foot chase with a thief earlier in the week (Garfield & Girard). Thursday's incident was at 12:30 pm (lunchtime). Saturday's incident is believed to have happened in the daytime as well.

The vehicle I witnessed was a mid 90's Chevrolet 2-Door Tahoe, Maroon in color, with New Mexico Plates.

Everyone needs to be ALERT for a new CRIME trend in our neighborhood. In the last 48 hours someone stole lawn furniture from 2 houses on Columbia. Last night Allison heard a car running in front of our house and the looked out the front window to see a young Hispanic male (early 20s) coming up our sidewalk at 1:15 in the morning. She yelled at him :"what are you doing" before he got onto the porch and he took off. He left his car running and the trunk was open to his car, older model white small car. Allison believes it was a Civic. He did not take anything, but I am sure he was interested in the stuff that was on my porch. Please be vigilant and watch out for this trend. If you see anyone in anyone's yard day or night that you do not recognize call the POLICE immediately. Try to get make, model, color and licence of the car if possible. Be extremely careful if you approach them and assume they are armed with something. There is no reason for someone to get injured over lawn furniture. The police used to offer a training workshops on neighborhood patrols and burglary prevention. I will investigate this to see how many we need to sign up for a class for our for our neighborhood.

Welcome Dionysus nice to see you here. There is a meeting of the Victory Hills Neighborhood Association tonight at 6:30 at Loma Linda Community Center. The main topic of conversation will be the election meeting next month. We really need to get a board that will work with our city councilman and each other. The election will be on Sept 20 at Hyder Park. I will put in something more formal as soon as I know anything.

For those who haven’t yet fought your way through the full report for the Clayton Heights MRA I will high light what the proposed changes for Loma Linda Community Center are. The entire area will be rezoned as mixed use this also includes the charter schools to the south of the center. A strip of land on the west side of the area, bordering Yale, will be sold to private developers for retail development. These will be up to four story buildings with living areas above the ground floor. A strip of land to the east will be given up for senior housing although only a very small percentage of the residents of the surrounding area are over 60. The intersection of Anderson and the entry to the center will be aligned destroying the soccer field and bring traffic dangerously close to the existing children’s playground. A therapeutic pool will be added to the center that can only be used with a prescription from a medical doctor and must be manned by medical professionals. Those of us who are objecting to this plan think that the open space and park around the center should be developed as more open space and park. I have suggested a skate park and dog park. Since 60% of the residents are under 40 and most are young families I think things for kids to do would be our first priority. If at all possible please try to attend this meeting. Your input is needed.

I recently became aware of the proposed changes to Loma Linda. I've taken a look at the report Chris mentions and there is quite a lot to think about there, not just about Loma Linda but also making the Kathryn/Yale intersection safer and other pedestrian-friendly changes to Yale and Cesar Chavez. There's another meeting coming up on Wednesday, July 22 at Loma Linda, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm; I plan to go.

Included in the plan is a redesign of the Loma Linda Community Center and surrounding area and they need your input.

I live on San Joaquin but didn't know about that crash.

I think the speed limit is about right but there's no way of enforcing it without keeping a cop there at all times.
