Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

Hi everyone! Wanna do something about the effects of the economy? How about helping the hundreds of hardworking people in our very own Duke City who have been laid off, can't pay their rent or mortgage, and are now experiencing homelessness?

On Friday, May 1st, Metropolitan Homelessness Project will hold the second annual Duke City Sleep Out. The Sleep Out is a one night event to raise funds for and promote awareness of homelessness. Participants collect sponsorships and then spend the night outside to benefit people in the metro area who are homeless and have no place to sleep indoors. Yep, YOU SLEEP OUT SO OTHERS CAN SLEEP IN!

The main site of the event this year is at the Menaul School football field (and we may even add another main location in Rio Rancho). The Sleep Out will have free food, entertainment, and a great program on homelessness in our city. Then we all get to sleep out under the stars together --a giant slumber party!

Helping out is EASY -- we're using an online fundraising tool so you can make your own homepage and email around to friends, family, coworkers, etc. for them to donate online. Yep, it's the lazy person's way of getting sponsorships! Just go to the Duke City Sleep Out site to get started. You can even make or join a fundraising team (like say, a group of your coworkers or neighbors).

You'll be raising money to benefit an important organization, Metropolitan Homelessness Project, who is housing 75 men a night, providing free community voice mail to anyone in need in the city, and offering services to veterans and those needed respite care.

Please visit the website or call Amanda at 344-2323 x. 104 for more information.
Hope to see YOU at the Sleep Out!!
