Volunteering at the Wemagination Center

I volunteer for a resource center called Wemagination. It is run by the Family Development Program of UNM. Wemagination is looking for volunteers and it is also a great resource center for parents, teachers, child care providers, grandparents…anyone who has or works with young children.

Wemagination is an Educational Creative Recycling Center. It receives donations from factories and large businesses of things like leftovers from the manufacturing process, or miss-made parts that would otherwise end up in the land fill. We provide these unusual and interesting materials for children’s play and learning.

FOR VOLUNTEERS:
The types of volunteers Wemagination is interested in include people who are talented in the areas of:
- Orgnaization, restocking shelves
- Reception
- Management of the warehouse
- Business Contacts
- Advertisement
- Educational specialist (early childhood focus, preferred)
- Artistic Display Coordinator
- Documenter
- Computer technology (database, website, etc)

FOR PEOPLE INTERESTED IN USING THE CENTER:
The Wemagination Resource Center promotes open-ended, hands-on play-based learning through the creative reuse of recycled materials available at our center. We offer a “Play Orientation,” a fun two-hour experience during which participants explore recycled materials through play. After attending a Play Orientation, participants are eligible to purchase a membership at an unbelievably low cost! It’s only about $2 for a cubic foot of toys and educational materials! What a great deal, particularly for helping out schools and families during a recession!
