I've been using Brinkster for the last several years to host my business website & email. The last six months they've really gone downhill with several outages that lasted way too long and really poor customer service. So I'm looking to move to a new web host. I don't really need tons of space or bandwidth and don't need a dedicated server. Really just a good ole stable host with support for subdomains, good ftp access, and good customer service. Does anyone have any recommendations local or otherwise?
FYI...I do a lot of web mapping and use HostGIS for that. They specialize in open source web map hosting and they are excellent. However, they just offer dedicated servers which is overkill for my rather simple web page.

I'm not currently a Dreamhost customer, but many of the web geeks I know are and they all seem very happy, so I second that suggestion.
Slicehost is great for VPS — if you need something that robust (though it sounds like you probably don't). I love their attitude and community. However, I found them not really be the best value... so I use their online resources but get my VPS from elsewhere (tektonic.net to be precise, though I haven't been with them long so the jury's still out).
I'm sure if you ask 10 people, you will get ten different answers! I've lived through good, bad and in-between shared web hosts for our business over the last decade. It's difficult to find a business-class shared webhost anymore, but we've been very happy with our current supplier, intermedia.net. They are primarily an Exchange host, but their shared web and pop3 email hosting has been rock-solid for us. 99% of my experience with cust service has been via online support, and they have always satisfied. We don't run a lot of traffic through our website, but we run tons of email traffic with lots of attachments. It's always been fast and reliable. My two cents...
If you are interested theres a 14 year old local ISP here in town that does webhosting. You can keep your money in the Burque and you get the added advantage of having local support and even meet with your hosts face to face. In the next month they should be rolling out a bit cheaper pricing too.
Thanks everyone. This was really helpful. I can find pros and cons to every webhost out there so it really helps to hear about companies DCF web geeks have had good experiences with.
DreamHost looks like it will work well.
Now let the DNS/registrar adventure begin!
