Free rooster to a good home

One of my broody hens hatched several eggs on July 30, 2013 and two roosters were among the brood. One rooster is all I can handle so I am looking for a home for this guy.  He is probably a buff orpington.  Beautiful rooster.  Please email or call/text at 507-7594 if you are interested in adding him to your flock.See More

"Hello.  I have a Black Australorp that has been broody for a week. I would like to try this.  Any chance I could get some fertile eggs to hatch too? I would be happy to share some of the chicks!  Thank you. -Amy"

"We bought pullets at Quality Baites (in the South Valley) in November, and they are wonderful... I was tempted to get chicks because I liked the idea of them being really comfortable with people, but we bought five hens of all different breeds and…"

"From what I've read, I think the most important factor in bullying in the flock is their relative size, and how long they've been together—when you add new, adult birds to a pre-existing flock, it may take a while for them to sort…"

"I started with pullets rather than chicks since chicks need special handling until they are old enough to manage on their own.  Allowed me to tweak my coop/pen and learn about the birds without having to stress over if the chicks were warm…"

advice for mail-order of chicks?

Hello, I'm almost done building my chicken coop and am considering placing a mail-order of chicks from a hatchery.  I'm leaning towards ordering five chicks, all different breeds but same size and temperament. I've read there are some benefits to a mixed flock. Am I making a big mistake? Any advice would be appreciated.  Happy new year!-AmySee More

"I have a willamette rhizome I planted 3 years ago.  I ran a wire from my soffit (roof overhang) to the ground and weighted it.  The distance is about 12' and the vine is already at the top; they grow very fast.  I'm sure it…"

growing hops

Hello, I have a hops vine on order from a seed catalog. Any suggestions/advice on growing hops in Abq? I assume like most plants that require 6+ hrs of sun it probably could use some shade and not 6+ hrs of NM sun!Thank you.See More
