About Me:: Caitlin Shaw

Caitlin Shaw is a 19-year old racecar driver from Albuquerque, New Mexico. She started racing quarter midgets at her local track, Sandia Motorsports Park, when she was nine and moved up in the open wheel ladder to the mini sprint division when she was 14. Shaw always has had a ‘never satisfied’ mind set and even starting her racing career at a young age was no different.
In 2006, Shaw advanced into the USAC Ford Focus Midget Racing Series and traveled across the country to compete. Then in 2007, Shaw competed in twenty nine races in eight different states and had fourteen top five finishes, ten of those being podium finishes. During this time, Shaw sacrificed a lot for her goal of racing professionally. She traveled in a small motor home all of her high school summers and most weekends for her career and to make the sport she fell in love with more than just a dream.
The 2008 season marked Shaw’s first year competing in the USAC National Midget series. She also received opportunities to test two NASCAR Camping World Trucks through Toyota at Richmond International Raceway and Pocono Raceway.
Shaw competed in multiple NASCAR Whelen All American Series events at Hickory Motor Speedway to gain NASCAR officials’ approval to run in the truck series. Shaw gained two top-10 finishes in the late model series.
Shaw is interested in all aspects of racing as she is getting her degree in Business with a concentration in Motorsports. Toyota Racing Development and Golin-Harris worked with Shaw as an intern for NASCAR public relations for special events in 2009, a partial NASCAR Cup season in 2008, and in 2007 she hosted a race at her local track for all school age children in Albuquerque. Shaw also participated at Riley Children’s Hospital, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and in Sports Week at Cherry Hills Albuquerque Public Library, reading to elementary students. Shaw also read at the Sandia Presbyterian Preschool to the students. Shaw states, "A lot of drivers focus so hard on the driving aspect of their career they forget to come back to their hometown and make difference in the lives of the people that helped them get where they are today -- I dont want to be one of those drivers. I love Albuquerque and the people there, I could never just forget about my hometown"

What I'm Reading:: My favorite books have been by Jodi Picault, I really love all the research she puts into her books. I also have really enjoyed Paradise Lost thanks to my High School English teacher Mrs. Bedeaux.
