Where I Live:

About Me:
For the last 12 years, I have been an independent licensed residential contractor, then this year I started as a kitchen designer for Poulin Design and Remodeling and 5 Day Kitchens. I am inspired by tile and spend lots of time looking at faucets, fixtures, lighting, hardware and cabinets. I love what I do, and feel very lucky that I get to make some money being creative.

I am married to my best friend, Erik. We have a house and yard that we could work on full time for the next five years, but it's got "lots of potential!"

I am a 4th generation New Mexican. I grew up in "Hippieland" Placitas, then left to explore to Denver and San Diego for a few years, but in 2000, the Land of Entrapment beckoned me back with my husband in tow!
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
You can be who you are, most people here don't care what that is, I can talk to people in grocery stores and they don't freak out, and I could start my own business.

Cute clothes stores in Albuquerque for a wedding outfit?

Posted on August 7, 2009 at 10:16pm 1 Comment

We're going to a wedding at the end of the month and I need an outfit. The wedding is semi-formal, and it's happening at the ski lodge of Winter Park Resort in Colorado. I have a budget of probably $100. I'm also a new mom, so baby friendly is essential, and stylish-esque would be nice. Any non-mall ideas of where to go tomorrow afternoon?

Not preggers any more....

Yay, I had my baby! February 21st at 2:53 AM, my little Kaden Zachary came into the world. I had a home birth, and I was only in labor for 7 hours with no complications for me or him. He weighed in at 7 lbs, 14 oz and 19 3/4" long.

I am still recovering, which has been fairly rough, but am totally thankful that I didn't have to deal with any medical interventions, and that I've been able to be home since his birth.

Breastfeeding has been quite the adventure, but I am… Continue

Pregnancy and construction

Posted on January 29, 2009 at 7:22pm 0 Comments

I am less than 4 weeks from my "due date" and since last September I have been keeping a blog. This week I posted an update on my last minute remodel to our Master Bathroom. Nothing like a contractor to decide that it's a good idea to start a remodel in her 8th month of pregnancy. What can I say, maybe the chemicals got to my brain after all these years.

Anyway, this week on my blog I decided to post a slew of designer/contractor tips… Continue

Oh Giant yard and Giant House

Posted on September 25, 2008 at 11:54am 36 Comments

Almost 2 years ago my hubby and I bought this giant house on a huge lot in the UNM North Golf Course neighborhood, with the dream of it someday being Grand Central Station for us and our future children. In truth, it is ridiculously oversized for two people, but I'm a contractor and designer, and I couldn't help but see loads of potential both for our family and as an investment.

As I look out over our almost half an acre in the middle of town, and our giant basement with room for… Continue

Do you wanna be on Foodie TV?!

Posted on August 20, 2008 at 11:02pm 7 Comments

I know there was a post a few days ago about Sophia's being on 'Diners, Drive-ins and Dives' and I responded to say that I knew the show would be filming at The Standard Diner on Central as well. Today I got a call from one of the owners of The Standard, telling me to invite all my friends to come to lunch tomorrow (Thursday 8/21), and be in the background for filming. I guess they're starting filming in the morning and will continue throughout the day. The restaurant opens at 11 am and if you… Continue

hi camian, thanks for your birthing advice! I checked out your blog and it was wonderful to read such a detailed description of actually giving birth--it's been really reassuring to hear from other women some idea of what it's actually like.

I checked out a bit more of your blog and I think we knew each other growing up in placitas and playing soccer. I grew up on gringo gulch road (I'm heather in the "real" world) and I was good friends with kyndra roth, drew wilson and anna wesley, if any of those names ring a bell. nice to find you again and congrats on being a mom!! I hope it's continued to be a wonderful experience.

Hi, I hope you don't find this too intrusive of me but I searched 'homebirth' on DCF and your comment about your birth plan popped up - it was the only hit. I am 3 months pregnant with my 1st child and relatively new to ABQ (moved from AZ in June '08) and I am interested in speaking with midwives who will assist with a homebirth as well as the women/families they worked with. Are you willing to speak/email with me about your experience? You can email me directly if you wish: kate.maguire8 (at) Thanks so much!

Hey Camian!

I have this little bag of things for you and your babe on my kitchen table. When is a good time to stop by and visit and chat about the fact that sleep deprivation is used as a torture device in most cultures?... I've decided to trade in facebook for duke city fix - seems MUCH more useful!

Love to you,

Your work is amazing. I love your choice of tiles, rock, and placement. You pick great doors, I don't know if they are custom but they are awesome. Love the antique teak entry way, and the choice of counter top in the home site, kick ass. I like that you go with natural wood alot, one of my favorite things about houses, and your varied lighting nothing to harsh but many different lighting options. Colors look great and you have a great nack for fireplaces and showers. I love the detail you put into it, fixtures, doorknobs, drawer knobs, faucets and inset fossil..................badass. I plan on being a millionaire someday so you'll definantly get me house to work on. Good stuff, I'll recommend you to everyone i talk to.
