SunCal - Up Front and All At Once

The NM Biz Journal parrots the promise of SunCal's new 11,500 jobs without question.

“Our investment in New Mexico so far has been more than $250 million. It would not be a stretch to suggest that SunCal has already had a positive impact on the local economy,” said SunCal Vice President David Soyka. “What we will really need to create the jobs is a demonstration to prospective employers that we can provide iContinue

SunCal's Deep Water

SunCal is making some brazen claims to brackish water in mile-deep wells beneath the old Atrisco Land Grant - among the brazen claims by others, including Atrisco Oil and Gas, Commonwealth Utilities and Sandoval County.

The uncharacteristically reality-based skepticism of the Albuquerque Journal was picked up by istockanalyst blog. The Journal notes the policy vacuum and suggested the State Engineer really… Continue

Dude is seriously unhinged

Seriously. State Senator Shannon Robinson has gone 'round the bend. And why is Attorney General Gary King propping up this poster boy for the Manny Aragon era?

I heard Robinson’s 35 minute senate floor “speech” Friday. Here's the story in the Albuquerque Journal, “Senator’s Tirade Targets Nonprofits.”

The harangue contained some real doozies - like how he lost his primary election in June because of George Sor… Continue

State Fair - All Tingley about a Coliseum

STATE FAIR! The Biggest Show in New Mexico, is an undated, but recent, book dedicated to: "New Mexico's children and children at heart who have faithfully made the State Fair a part of their lives."

I'm one of those. I've had some of the best and worst times of my life at… Continue

Shannon, Dan, James & Whiskey

In "Lonely are the Brave," a movie made from the book, "The Brave Cowboy", by Edward Abbey, Kirk Douglas rides his palomino, Whiskey, across the Albuquerque west mesa toward DukeCity, in Bernal County. It was filmed in 1961 and today the western horizon looks much the same. The ancient volcanoes, lava flow and City open space bound the western edge of the city. But this is changing. Developer SunCal hopes to build beyond the volcanoes.

I read you "SunCal's Deep Water" blog. Your comments are very interesting. Are you an Heir to the Atrisco Land Grant? Your extremely informed on alot of issues. I assume you were born and raised in Albuquerque? My family grew up in the South Valley. La Vega Dr!

Coco, love your Tingley post. So do you know the Darnells? Went to school with Emily and like all my friends, had a crush on her brother Cliff.

Cadigan failed to get the votes needed to override Marty's veto on the TIDD bill. Surprised I haven't seen anybody comment on it. The trib covers it here

Cadigan has a great quote at the end... "What happened to capitalism?," Cadigan asked. "What happened to asking a developer to get the money from a bank instead of taxpayers?"

I found this great link to a recent study carried out by a County Commissioner in Chicago about the issue... in their case its called TIF's but its basically the same thing. You can view that here
