You are not reading my words apparently. All parts of the city have their importance. But I am sick and tired of people dumping on Downtown. Downtown is a great place, weather or not you see it or believe it. You have made your feelings about Down...

Yes, John, I have looked at the maps put out by MRCOG. Yes, I have gone to many meetings with the city and ABQ Ride about transit for the city. Yes, I know there are apartment buildings on Montgomery and single family homes Downtown. People do hav...

Screw Downtown? Seriously? I would say that Downtown has been screwed enough. It's high time the residents of the sprawl learned that Downtown IS the center of the city. Cities need vibrant downtowns. Downtowns are the economic engines of any city...

Honest question... why would someone move to a new city and judge it based on having "a good soup bar" or not. You don't know about the soups available in ABQ probably because you have yet eat in every single restaurant in and around the city. Th...

Here's an idea. If you have great, convincing information, from economists, urban planners, etc. that will educate people about the project, why not start a new post on DCF and post that information? It would reach more people than just me and probably answer a lot of questions for those who are out there reading and not posting. Ultimately, I'm not a person you need to worry about. There are a lot of people out there who need convincing. I don't think putting effort into debating me is going to net you the best results. If you have great information, then share it with everyone, because that's going to do you more good in the long run than worrying about what one going-on-middle-aged NE Heights mom is saying about the project. At the end of the day, I have a job and a family and the Central streetcar doesn't make even my top 10 list of things to worry about today. But there are lots of people out there who do have the time - or will make it - to fight the effort and those are the people you need to be convincing.

I'm sorry, but I don't think a conversation with you is going to change my mind about the streetcar. I don't see the benefit and I don't understand why, despite the strong opposition from residents outside the Central corridor the last time this idea came up, this is being reconsidered. I think maybe people who live in the potential streetcar's area don't understand that a. they are heavily outnumbered by people who don't live along Central and are frustrated with the constant investment into "revitalizing" that area at the expense of investment anywhere else in the city; b. especially in this economy, people are not going to want to see their tax dollars spent on something of limited benefit, and c. contrary to popular belief, people living outside the UNM/Nob Hill/Fringecrest area do pay attention to the news and are going to be able to mobilize against this. For me, the biggest indicator that this has not been carefully considered is the fact that no one even attempted to answer the questions myself and others brought up about the real, hard-numbers economic benefits the streetcar would bring. Without answers about that and some real effort to convince people in the NE Heights and West Side that this will somehow benefit them - which I also have not seen - I'm afraid that this effort is going to meet the same result the last one did. The streetcar frankly just seems like an idea some people have latched onto as some kind of economic panacea for Central without really knowing what the costs and benefits are supposed to be. When the justification for a multimillion-dollar infrastructure project comes down to "we need it because it will give people pride in their city and give us an identity" I think something's wrong. If you really want to see this succeed, I'd recommend you work with the proponents to shore up their rhetoric a little, or else they are going to get smacked down by a groundswell of counteropinion, the way they did last time.

You make a good point. Art De La Cruz has won the election for county commissioner for this part of Bernalillo County. I know where he lives maby I can talk to him about more mass transit here in Pajarito.
