Music of Frederic Mompou: Fred Sturm and Paula Swalin at Keller Hall, UNM

September 26, 2014 from 7:30pm to 9pm
Frederic Mompou (1893-1987), a Catalan composer, created a very personal sound based on harmonies he “discovered” through his fingertips, improvising at the piano, seeking for combinations of sounds that evoked deep emotional response. The program will include both early and late works for solo piano – Scenes d'Enfants (1918) and Charmes (1921) from his youth, and Paisajes (1942-1960) and excerpts of Música Callada (1967)…See More

A concert of solo piano music by Mexican composer Federico Ibarra, marking the release of a new CD, Federico Ibarra, Music for Piano. This is absolutely amazing music by a composer I consider one of the very best living today. In fact, I would put him in the ranks of the best composers of all time. He has something to say and knows how to say it. He imagines sounds and connections of those sounds to our inner emotional lives in a way that is fresh and speaks directly to the heart. The more I…See More
