Where I Live:

About Me:
Originally from North Carolina, I moved to New Mexico in 1986. Only days after receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, I was in Albuquerque, excited about starting a new life in a new place. I have been here ever since - working, painting, enjoying the American Southwest and watching the two children I love grow up.

I sometimes feel as if I have been here on a very long extended vacation. Each morning is a blessing to wake up to another beautiful sunrise and new possibilities. North Carolina is always in my heart, but New Mexico captured a big piece of it, too.

Artist Statement

Painting is something I have a strong need and desire to do. There is something very fulfilling about creating something with your own hands.

Here in New Mexico, the light, the colors and the shapes within the landscape are a never-ending source of inspiration for me. These elements are the perfect excuse for me to paint the way I do. Acrylics have become my medium of choice due to the bright colors, fast drying time and durability they offer.

From my own reference photos, sketches and sometimes working on site, I try to capture in paint the subjects that catch my attention. It could be flowers, a landscape, a time of day or just the way the light touches certain objects. It is my way of saving memories of things that leave me in awe.

An Artist's Hard Lesson Learned

Posted on June 17, 2010 at 3:41pm 0 Comments

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to sign a consignment agreement with a local frame shop here in Albuquerque. This shop had a beautiful frame that complemented my acrylic paintings on canvas. The owners, a husband and wife team, offered to frame my work, using this as my signature frame and display my work for sale, taking a 50% commission. We had a very positive working relationship for a couple of years.

Then, suddenly, the couple separated and the wife was forced to sell the… Continue
