I was running an errand in the NE Heights yesterday when, without even thinking about it, I pulled over and ended up in the Beaded Iris Bead Store. I’d never been in a place like this before; Beads everywhere! Mounded in baskets, rows of plastic tubes organized by color, and hanging from the wall in thick ropes of many strands. The lady asked if she could help me, but I’m sure she saw that newbie look in my eyes.

Taos por moto

The plan was to ride my motorcycle up to Taos to watch my daughter Olivia perform with her slam poetry team in the state high school competition there on Sunday. She said her performance wouldn't be until 5pm, so I had all day to meander on the way, through some of the most beautiful country in New Mexico.

The Albuquerque Motorcycle Riders Group trip description for Saturday was ambitious; ride up through Cuba to Abiquiu, then north to Chama for lunch near the border of Colorado, then down back roads south through Madrid and back to Albuquerque in a day. Hello-  sorry it has taken so long to get back to you . I can not even explain, the urge to visit ABQ. I woke up one morning with an urge, and I have been moving forward with it nonstop. I have been running (busy wise) between work, raising daughters- I started on a trading floor in Chicago when I was 17.  I am ready for the next chapter , and explore my passion, making holistic, aromatherpy lotions and skin care products.   I cant even tell you how long it took me - to learn how to spell ABQ.   LOL ...I have an urge to visit with the 99.9% chance of moving there, I am ready to go!!  By the time I move there, I have one in College and one in highschool. I am so excited

Hello-  I am actually thinking about moving, so I am doing a visit alone..  I have 2 daughters one in college and one in high school.. but it will be huge changes for us.  I am trying to get a grasp of the surroundings, as I have lived in the Chicago suburbs all my life, so in my reasearch I found this web site and LOVE it..so many groups and helpful people. I have to say I  get a kick out of the fact that there is a Chicken group !!!

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a fabulous book! I'm using it as the centerpiece for a living/learning course at my university. We were lucky enough to get the author, Rebecca Skloot, to visit our university earlier this year (right after her book was released) and I had the good fortune introduce her!

Am thinking we should meet up for coffee or something give our shared interests...

Hi JMG - I'm beginning to think we may have crossed paths - are you talking about Aroop's group or the Brown Bag group at the Ethics Institute? Because I travel so much it is hard to get to these, but I do attend when I can. I used to work with the Ethics Institute (back in the mid-1990s when Joan G was running it), but now the work I do is limited to the 6 hour Saturday intro class for the Ethics Certificate program. I've recently done more with the U Penn Center for Bioethics (Art Caplan's group) over the past few years than UNM because of geographic constraints. Do you teach at UNM or are you solely in research? Are you primarily a bioethicist or is your area something else?

Look forward to seeing what you find out.
