Sorry, I don't have any photos. We became friends after she was married; I've only seen her pics. It's easy to get to, though--you could stop by one day to check it out.

A fried of mine got married in West Bluff Park, near Coors & I-40. Beautiful views of the Bosque & Sandias from this little arbor at the overlook. With the cottonwoods changing colors right now, I'm sure it would be gorgeous.

Anybody know what was up in the NW downtown / near Old Town area at about 5:00 this AM? Someone was on a megaphone for about 20 or 30 minutes; sounded like the cops ordering someone to come out with their hands up. I heard what sounded like a coup...

Laws or not, it's simply bad behavior to have your dog off-leash, unless it is 100% under voice command (and I've *never* encountered a dog outside a working farm that was). Your dog might be fine, but mine isn't--and me keeping my dog on-leash is...

Meh. You couldn't pay me to go to the park and deal with the crowds, but the balloons are a nice sight on my morning ride to work. But does anyone know why they terrify my pooches so?

I was expecting something entirely different when I saw the title of your post... glad to know there are no cranes stuck in SUV grilles (yet, anyway).

It's definitely worth going at least once, but beware--all that delicious food and drink can add up fast. Opa! Mmmm.... lamb.

Good city

I am not a good city dweller. I cringe from getting into my car, even to go hiking, because the drive must take me through an ever-amplified din of pavement and billboards and exhaust and angry angry people, each with a distracted finger on the trigger of a three-thousand-pound steel and plastic weapon. There is trash on the street, and a fat woman in tight jeans kicks her little girl, because her hands are too encumbered by cellphone and Wal-Mart bags to be good for slapping. My neighbor's dog… Continue

Red and yellow, black and white

In all that time off my feet, I did a lot of reading, even for me. As I've gotten my fingers in more pies, my internet time has fallen off, most days amounting to a quick update from my core favorite sites, a peek at my email, and not much else. Being confined to a seated position gave me plenty of time to catch up.

One evening in the midst of all this doing-nothing-on-my-feet, I read most of the archives of… Continue

On my own two feet

I'm inside one of my quasi-regular news blackout phases, partially the result of being put in a walking cast for two months. The connection may not be obvious, but spending a lot of time off your feet means being put into a hyper-observant, hyper-ruminative mode. Which means you're already on input overload and have enough to muse and masticate and roll around inside your head--you don't need economic woes and wars clunking around in there too.

Being under sedentary restrictions also mean going… Continue

The night before.

Good god, I never expected to feel this antsy.

Chez put it well. Tomorrow is a bigger day than even I have allowed myself to believe. I'm hoping my fellow citizens heed the words of the Godfather tomorrow, for the good of us all.

Holy crap, I am so crashing someone's election party, if only for the human companionship.

Something tasty this way comes

Last night, I accused a well-known figure from ABQ's restaurant scene of sorcery.

Human sacrifice was really the only explanation I could come up with. The deliciousness really was unholy. I'm talking, of course, about Farina's pizza crust. Moist and chewy on the inside, crisp and perfectly browned on the outside, this pizza crust made me get on my knees and thank all the deities I could name for… Continue

Jessie I am familiar with the basic message and it does have much merit, but I sure dont think that anyone can slay a dragon. Hell most people dont even know um when they see um. Then there is the ever popular you see them but you decide to ignore them, or pretend they are not real, and decide to love the world instead.

Jessie I really really liked your Good City post, especially the first paragraph. I feel like that so often.....too often. Tell myself "toughen up" but it does not work too well, and really I dont think deep down I even want to toughen up. Here in the happy talk world
its nice to hear a voice from the other side. I mean really there are just some things that you cant make go away or get lost or disappear by a vist to tinkertown

Hey there Jessie, I have a few loads of yard waste and I was wondering if Alan would consider doing some work in my neck of the woods. I am in the Nob Hill/SE heights/Ridgecrest area and I have several loads of yard waste that needs to be hauled. If you have his #, I'd like to give him a call. I don't know how to email you but you can contact me: katmaguire (at) yahoo.com. Thanks!

Doc Watson! I haven't heard him for years. Saw him in concert with his son Merle (who, sadly died in an accident some years ago) around 1974, I think.

Alan apparently went by your place, looked over the fence and said he'd come by at 7am tomorrow morning and haul your stuff away (cut up trees?) for $30. Let me know if that's okay or if you have a message for him and I'll let him know. - Jill

Hi Jessie: call my home phone number and leave your contact info. Maybe the address of the place, too? I can find Alan for you. He's always anxious to work and has done jobs for several people on my block (8th St. off Freeman, near 4th and Griegos).

Howdy right back at ya. I donated a book to the Marble library that I thought you might find interest in . "The Beers of Richmond". I asked Ryan to just let you know it was there.

There is something about the detail, tension, feel of the well thought written word, which forms images in the frontal lobe while reading, that's kind of cool. OK, about sausages, as a beta tester, you are in!
