Rain Review

I read a ways back that weather pattern models suggested we weren't going to have a monsoon season. This is in contrast to conventional wisdom from the last time we had such an extreme cold/hot dry year, which I think was in 2006. I'll take the farmer's almanac over meteorology any day, so I was pleased to see the thunderstorm clouds return a couple of weeks ago. Today the monsoons came back with a vengeance.  Like most things, rain doesn't come moderately in New Mexico. Flooding the upper…See More

Sunday 'nafternoon rides - Two wheels through Fringecrest

Posted on July 25, 2010 at 5:30pm 1 Comment

The last couple of Sunday afternoons I've gone for a ride on two wheels, something that's fast becoming a habit. Here are a couple of quick observations from today.

A bicycle ride is unlike driving a car or walking in that you can cover a fair amount of ground without either missing details or tuning out because it takes a long time to get anywhere. Today's ride took me to the Ridgecrest area, and included a small amount of rain and a good breeze. I took a small amount of… Continue

The Fix is On

Since I finally caved and signed up for Duke City Fix (note: wasn't against it, just wasn't sure I could maintain another online presence) I figured an appropriate way to start things would be to write a little love note to the city that has been my home for the last 19 years.

Dear 'Burque,

I remember first arriving in the city back in '91. I wouldn't call it love at first sight. More like we saw each other across… Continue
