Introducing...Historypin!

Posted on July 7, 2010 at 10:51am 7 Comments

A couple of days ago I came across a website called Historypin. It's a website based in England which uses the Google Map engine to allow users to upload historical photos and pin them to the map. The photos can also be overlaid on to Google Street View to show how a place has changed over time. Here's a short video explaining the concept:

An Adobe Stadium

Lately I’ve been doing some research on a little UNM history for a new job and came across some magnificent photos of Zimmerman Field, a now long demolished UNM stadium. I had heard of a stadium once in the middle of the main campus, but I had never seen up-close pictures of it and certainly nothing on the internet. So I thought I’d take a leaf out of Johnny Mango’s book and share what… Continue

The Beginnings of a Bicycle Boulevard

Posted on March 26, 2009 at 2:30pm 17 Comments

I had yet to actually post a blog post on my profile here, preferring to just send people to my personal blog instead. But I felt like the birth of the bicycle boulevard was worthy of a first time post.

As shown in the photo above, I saw a bunch of markings on Silver Avenue south of UNM.

This is one of the pavement markings for the new Bicycle Boulevard system which has been talked about for months. These markings, along with… Continue

I'll go ahead and do it. I'll be working on the guide after my regular 8-5.

Do I have your permission to use your desciptions/writing?

John,

I'm working with the New Mexico Architectural Foundation.

I hope you would consider adding your research and photos (within copyright) to the Guide to Albuquerque Architecture website.

Here's the link:
http://www.newmexicoarchitecturalfoundation.org/pages/inputProject.jsp

We will review your submission and post the building to the site (upon committee review).

Let me know if you're interested. You post on DCF was excellent.

John, just found your October comment re: the Abq Home And Lifestyle Expo event and the Rails Inc. booth. Sorry - 1st time I've accessed this page, actually. I usually go straight to the riders forum. In any case, I did not stop by the Rail Inc booth. After my DART light rail experience in Dallas, I wish I had and I will in the future. I was impressed.

John,

As a transportation nut myself, and I know you are in to community and regional planning, I was wondering if you had seen this yet: http://www.abqjournal.com/news/state/1911285807-19-08.htm and what your thoughts on it were?
