Wow! You alone elevate DCF about a dozen notches on US city blogs/social hubs. Great story, as usual. I can just barely see the Nob Hill Hotel from my front yard, and love knowing the back story. Thanks!

I am not who you think I am, whatever that may be. Nothing on my outside defines me; Nothing in my past defines me. I am the sum of my passions. I joyfully weep when people prevail against prejudice and realize their true destiny. I champion the rejected and rush headlong against hate justified by gross misunderstandings of religious texts. I am an advocate on behalf of the forgotten and those too weak to defend themselves against a governmental collective mind which defines who is worthy. I stand arm in arm with the unjust, the beaten, the afraid, and the oppressed, daring the self appointed God police to touch my beloved ones. I am stronger than they think I am, more tenacious, more passionate than I have ever been in my life. I KNOW THE GREATEST FORCE ON EARTH IS THE POWER OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. That force is strong within me, and I will prevail.

Slideshow: Dios de los Muertos, Albuquerque 2009

One of my favorite events of the year is the Marigold Parade in the South Valley here in ABQ. Video I shot last year is supposed to be used in a documentary, so I was anxious to get some new shots. There's about 30 photos in this slideshow. Webshots tends to leave out part of the photo on the larger shots, however you can get the vibe of the parade. Hit the link below to see the full shot of anything that catches your interest. Wish you were here...

Balloon Fiesta Highlight: Citizen Teamwork

Hard Landing Kelly Vickers 2009 5
One of the great joys of the balloon fiesta is subduing the envelope as it lands. Thursday morning this one bounced several times, crashed through a fence and lay down down blocking all lanes of Osuna. A dozen drivers, thwart… Continue

Balloon Fiesta Blast from the Past

I was delighted when I spotted this virgin AIBF patch at an estate sale this weekend---for a quarter. I think, yet I need your help, that this is from the original fiesta back in 1972. My grandfather, Bill Funk, was enlisted to photograph the event. His photos served as the founda… Continue

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary: it's Time!

Considering we had snow flurries here in the Q two days ago, it's just a bit too early, yet I couldn't wait even another weekend to start my garden. Chili and tomatoes will go in pots, so I built a waist high garden today for the herbs. It's four foot square. I laid screen over the wooden slats at the bottom, then… Continue

Some NM Christians in Panic

Tomorrow our State legislature is hearing testimony and possibly voting on a domestic partnership bill. Gov. Richardson has promised to pass it, and it looks like we finally have the votes for this important civil rights law to pass. I was listening to the local big Christian radio station, and, as usual, they are resorting to fear tactics to try to motivate listeners to call their congresspersons saying, "we must act now to protect our children and our grandchildren!" uh, yeah, from what? My fa… Continue

Fellow NM Photographer!
Just a quick note to invite you to Karl Koenig's opening at the Inpost Art Space (at the Outpost Performance Space, 210 Yale SE) this coming Friday evening, 5-8. Karl is a talented photographer who makes images mostly of nature and architecture, the world round. The show will focus on his large format gumoil photographs, a process that he pioneered himself about 20 years ago. The prints are hand pigmented, resulting in amazingly vibrant photographs with a wondrous, almost catastrophic fairy tale quality. I find them highly affecting and unique.

My fellow curator Rob Thalmann and I plan to focus heavily on local photography during our 2 year term there at the Outpost, and this is just the tip of the iceberg for us. Maybe we could even do a DCF photographer's group show there?

Come see the show on the 5th!

Hello,

I noticed that you wrote a bit about Tiny toen. I am trying to figure out how to get in touch or a hold of Tammy. I understand that its closed down but I would love to possibly see if I could buy or some of the installation. Drop me a line.

Cool. Thanks! Great pic from the church too. I love that art, but hadn't seen the south side mural, just the stuff facing 4th St.

Thanks! I've been trying to get Sophie to include the requirement that people should post reviews of the shows if they win tickets.

As you could see from the turnout, we need all the plugs we can get. Wanna write something and post your pic on the main page in response to the ticket giveaway thread?
