Yes, the Biker Commandments are opinion-based just like most of this world's religions. Take what suits you and leave what doesn't.

Have to disagree here. My husband teaches middle school and this "no snitch" cultural rule sets kids up to take sides with low life criminal wanna-bes instead of the teachers and other authorities, who, in many cases, represent and pass on basic r...

Not much riding going on with me these days. I'm still getting used to the new job and trying to get into a new routine. It's just easier if I take the car to work instead of the bike. My riding days are now limited to once a week and that's only ...

Heh! Yet Another Group. Yeah, probably don't need yet another group. I was just thinking along the lines of "Why pay for Meetup when the same functions can be had elsewhere for free?" I like your guidelines.

I'm not a leader. If people want to go the same direction I'm going, cool, but I don't lead. I can maintain the site though.

Another thought... Why use meetup.com and pay the fees? a community can be set up on Ning and it won't cost anything unless you want some of the fancy features. Free Ning can do more than for-pay meetup can. I just set one up just to see how easy...

Profile Information

Where I Live:
North Valley
About Me:
I've been a shipping clerk, a delivery truck driver, a bartender, a sailor and a beach bum. I guess I'm still searching for my niche. Meanwhile, I pimp myself out as a Network/System Administrator. When the job stress gets to be too much, I take off on the motorcycle. Nothing like a nice long ride to clear the head and get a person thinking straight again.

One of my hobbies is collecting and restoring old time radio shows. I've specialized in the series "CBS Radio Mystery Theater" which ran from 1974 to 1982.

Analog to Digital Conversion
I very much enjoy converting vinyl albums and reel-to-reel tapes to digital format. I try to do only those that have never been re-released on CD but if the source holds great sentimental value, I will convert it. Unlike the fully automatic equipment available, I do it completely manually by playing back the source to my PC then manually processing the audio file to remove clicks, pops and excessive hiss, etc. It's a long process that can take anywhere from 3-4 hours up to a couple weeks depending on the condition of the source. The manual process is well worth the extra time because it results in a much cleaner conversion. If you have an old album that you haven't been able to play for a long time, contact me and we'll see what we can work out.

I'm also a big Star Trek fan. I don't go overboard though, I just like watching the series' and the movies.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
It still has that smal-town feel to it.
Relationship Status:
Married
What I'm Reading:
For relaxation: Stories about the open road and the zen-like experiences that can be found there. Otherwise, boring tomes about Windows, Linux and Cisco administration.
What I'm Listening To:
The Blues!
Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Van Morrison, Gary Moore, Muddy Waters, BB King, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Candye Kane, Jesse Cook, Bobby Bland, Bob Brown Trio, Jimi Hendrix, Francine Reed, Saffire, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Albert King, John Campbell, ZZ Top, Allman Brothers, ...

As well as The Blues Show on KUNM, 89.9 FM, every Wednesday evening at 7 PM.

Music with a philosophical bent...

They say that listening to another person's musical choices is like looking through a window into their soul. Well, have a peek...if you dare.

John Sanchez is Back (Lock up your women and children.)

Joe Monahan blogged today about the possibility of John Sanchez running for Guv or Lt Gov. Being cursed with a long memory, I remember the "giant killer", as he was called when he defeated Raymond Sanchez here in the North Valley. I remember he abandoned us to concentrate on running for Guv in 2002 against Richardson.

Yeah, I remember John Sanchez.

Driving down from the Crest

Folks, after following a full-size SUV all the way down from the Crest this morning, I felt compelled to offer a bit of advice. If you take a drive up to the Crest, a wonderful drive by the way, be sure to use a lower gear on the way down so you don't have to ride your brake all the way. I smelled burning brake pads all the way down today and he could have avoided all the extra wear and tear if he had just used a lower gear.… Continue

Ok, I'm going to get a little geeky here. I have a deep dark side that wants to come out every once in awhile. That side is the geek in me.

Interesting observation at red light camera intersections

Anyone ever notice how the red light cameras actually steal your focus away from the normal hazards of the intersection?

Hey Kenny, you going to Tommy Castro this Friday at El Rey?

Yes, Kenny, that road is paved. I just always refer to it as the "Black Lake Road". Although it is paved it can get some nasty potholes in the winter and I haven't yet ridden it this season to be able to comment on what it looks like this year. It is only about a lane and a half so careful on the many blind corners.

Hey Kenny, I know you are a blues lover. Are you going to go see Tommy Castro at El Rey this Saturday night? If you've never seen him live I would really encourage you to go! I have to work Saturday night until around 11:30, but will head over there afterward. Maybe I'll see you there!

Interesting you should mention the Hwy 152 route. I spent the last hour and half mapping out a ride through Hillsboro, then on to Silver by way of 152, then on 35 and 15 into Silver City. At least an overnight there and then back home on the west side of the Gila and up through Quemado. Round trip is about 570 miles. I'm thinking weekend of April 17 or maybe 4/25.. but I'm torn. If I got to Silver I would want to stay another day to gallery and museum crawl. So maybe leave Friday instead. :-)

There aren't any for sale that I can find on a brief search (if I dug deeper, I could probably find one. Somewhere.), but the Center for Southwest Research at UNM has a copy for library use only. You have to call it up from the librarian, and read it in the Anderson Reading Room. Which I fully intend to do Saturday.

Hi Kenny,
Thanks for the heads up. I contacted him and might go. My Dad and his family is in town next weekend so I might have to sit this one out...depending on the final times. :(. But next one for sure.
