Can math keep us healthy?

Last week I went to a PBS meeting in Arlington with KNME General Manager Polly Anderson and Hollie Lovely KNME Ready to Learn Coordinator. We were excited to see the new materials and hear about the successes from around the country for the PBS Raising Readers. It’s a program that uses television, books, activities and events to help young children develop the skills they will need to succeed in school.

KNME Science Café this past Saturday morning at the Bio Park and Aquarium was pretty special. Dr. Ralph Charlton is a extreme scientist. He is Curator of Invertebrates at the ABQBioPark. While we tried to overcome technical difficulties with our video clip, he entertained the crowd by placing a leach on each hand and talking about how they work and how to get them off. I met my friend Arthur when he was a bassoonist and composer. We produced concerts together in Philadelphia for several years. He eventually decided that being a musician would never be a really lucrative career for him. He and his wife town to go to nursing school in up-state New York. If he began his education earlier in life, he would probably be a brain surgeon, but today he is a really smart nurse at UNM.
