Ok. I'm going to try not to sound like an infomercial here, but have to tell all my fellow runners about this new facility I've been working out at called the Southwest Sports Institute, located near I-25 and Jefferson. You can't really call it a ...

I think peanut butter goes well with a lot of things. I'm not training as hard as you and your wife so no crazy cravings here. How's the marathon training going? I'm working on achieving a faster 10K time and then looking into a half marathon.

Local Findings This November

It’s amazing how a few extra-curricular activities outside work and home life can open doors to places you had no idea existed in this great city.

I recently came across two local businesses that I think as Albuquerque lovers we should embrace to help keep these places going.

Lucky for me these establishments tap into two of my passions, running and beer drinking. I like to stay balanced. So, here are my findings this month:

I’ve Been Running

When I was a kid, running was embarrassing for me. I’ve always been an athlete, but never a small, spry gazelle athlete who could run for days. I’ve always been the athlete who doesn’t throw like a girl and could beat any guy in H-O-R-S-E on the basketball court.

I was a chunky tomboy during my elementary school years. Not the best years to be chunky, not only because of the ridicule from painfully honest/stupid kids, but also PE class and the mile run tests they put you through.

Running was n… Continue

Open Your Heart to ABQ

So, warning, I'm writing this blog while bopping along to Madonna's Open Your Heart to Me. Love this song, by the way. Well, I gotta tell everyone who reads this that I truly love Albuquerque. It's like an old friend or an always-there-for-me boyfriend that I take for granted and then one day I have this realization that I really do love that person and I would never want them to go away no matter how much I get annoyed with them. Why the lovefest for ABQ? Just took a trip to Chicago for a busin… Continue

One Small Step

For whatever reason, I'm still irritated by the whole Jessica Alba comment. So I'm hoping this post will help put my frustrations at ease.

Back in the day, when I was much younger :), my choices of dining out included places like Chili's, Applebees, Bennigans, you know, the regular chains where servers have pieces of flare. Hell, my first job was at Black Eyed Pea and the second was at Applebees. So I've spent a good many years supporting chain restaurants, but now I say no more of tha

After I came across your recent blog post about running (with which I connected - I am 25 and just took up running recently, too), I read some of your other work and feel like I must share a good resource with you - urbanspoon.com. I am totally with you about avoiding chain restaurants and being adventurous enough to try mom'n'pop and hole-in-the-wall joints instead, and urbanspoon.com provides a forum for rating/reviewing such places and hopefully sending more traffic their way. You should check it out when you have a chance!

We didn't move around so much either but, I did have priviledge of living overseas. We lived in Okinawa Japan before moving here in 95. We also lived in Arizona and South Dakota. Both my parents were in the military and they decided they wanted to retire here in Albuquerque.

I noticed you were also an air force brat. Where were your parents stationed? Did you ever live overseas?
