Oh yeah, lots of chickens! That group even hosted a chicken coop tour last year.. you got a map and went from house to house to see members' chicken coops. Some were expensive yuppy coops, some were artsy "found" materials and some were old fashioned coops based on what their families have had for a century. Albuquerque is a real mix, which is what I love. There are some ugly chain restaurant/oil change/Dollar store intersections and depressing housing developments, but also ancient irrigation ditches with old adobe haciendas along them. You have to look for the treasures and Duke City Fix can point you to a lot of them. Good luck in your adventure! What led you to Albuquerque or New Mexico?
Hi Lisa, Do you mean the road to Madrid, NM - is it safe? I think it's very safe. Tell me more about your concerns, and I can try to address them. If you don't stay at Los Poblanos Inn, you have to at least visit it. It's a side of historic Albuquerque that many people don't see... very beautiful and off the "Walmart/Dollar Store" route. Are you visiting friends here? - Jill
